Hiney......I can see why yer proud, nicely done.

Just a suggestion, while yer tractor is tightly chained fore'n'aft, it need a 2-in web belly strap over the tranny to keep planted on the flatbed. Specially since you ain't gott no chocks on yer wheels. .......respectfully, Dell

You did a great job, tractor looks real nice. I haul my 8N's on a rig similar to yours. I prefer to load it front first and tie it down like you did yours. I have hauled several including my 960 that way, mid west to SE. My load has been checked in several states east of the Mississippi and only 2 times have DOT people questioned me. Actually one did explain that in his state(GA?) each corner must be chained with separate chains (straps) but he let me proceed with one front chain done like yours. In another state the agent was harping about my lack of DOT approved tie downs but his superior came out and said that my load was agricultural and my tie downs were fine for the purpose.

Is that an optical illusion or is your right front wheel toed in?

Great lookin' tractor. nice job. When can you start on mine?

Can you please tell me specifically what paint you used? The local
New Holland guy sold me some gray stuff that ain't even close to
the correct color you have. I think his can must have been left over
from WW II. Cost me $8.00 to get motivated to pay more attention
next time.

Thanks
Ray

Hello IT REALLY LOOKS GOOD, DID YOU DO THIS JOB OR SOMEONE ELSE, I AM STARTING ON MYNE NOW, WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET ORIGINAL PAINT? I HAVE FINALLY FOUND THE WRIGHT DIST. CAP AND ROTOR, MINE HAD A TISCO DISTRIBUTOR, BOUGHT THE FIRST TIME FOR REGULAR 8N DIST. AND THEY WOULD NOT FIT. I STEEL HAVE THEM, I KELP THEM A LONG TIME BEFORE I NEEDED THEM AND NOW I DON'T KNOW WHERE I BOUGHT THEM. I HOPE MINE WILL LOOK AS GOOD AS YOURS. I LIVE IN AL. WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Hiney Great resto job, and good chain down job. Don't even think about putting a strap over that tranny. It looks like she's a little under 10,000 lbs. so you don't need the heavy chains and separate to each corner like I do for my big tractors.

Ed,

Good eyes, you are right. It is a side mount.

Jim,

It is not an optical illusion, the right wheel is toed in. I don't have power or heat out at my place right now, so I did the restore in my dad's barn with his help, but he needs the room in his barn of other projects so I needed to move it. The toe in will need to be addressed yet. Thanks for the complements, this is the 4th one that my dad I have torn down and repainted.

Ray,

As far as the paint, I will have to get back with you. I don't know if it is the "correct" color, but the color that I prefer. My dad and I did all the painting except for the tin work. I had my friend that works at a body shop paint it for me but he said that he didn't like the paint that I had bought. I believe that he said that it was just hard to work with. All the red paint was painted with a paint brush and the paint came from TSC. I believe that it was their truck and trailer paint. I know it wasn't the Valspar Tractor Restro paint that they sell. I will have to look at the paint cans tonight and get back with you.

Koenton,

My dad and I did all the work except for painting the tin work. My friend painted all the tin for me. The new paint job all started because one of the exhaust valve stems broke and a couple of the valve springs were broken. So we fixed that and while it was torn down, put a Sherman Combo in it and repainted it all. I live in SE Lower Michigan in a small town called Hudson.

Thanks for all the complements and all the info that everyone so willingly shares. Makes working on and with these tractors so much easier.

Thanks,

Hiney

Thanks!! I like the color of the white/gray you chose. That's how I
remember my 8N from when I was 6 yr old and Dad brought it
home. It was never battle ship gray like New Holland sells now. The
red looks good also.

Ray,

Here is the paint information that you requested yesterday.

Red - Bought from TSC
Valspar Truck and Trailer Enamel - 4632 Bright Red

Gray - Bought from Painter's Supply
Commericial Performance Coatings - ALK-200 - Ford Tractor Gray - 911685

Hope this helps. If you need anything else, email is always open.
