180 Degree Thermostat

8N '54 side mount 6 volt positive ground

Discovered there isnt a thermostat so I ordered a [b:1ce559ff9c]180 degree[/b:1ce559ff9c] one (part number A-B2NN8575A)

Does the pointy end point at the engine or does it point at the radiator?

Thanks.

(quoted from post at 17:46:17 09/19/09) This is the 18 Degree Thermostat not the standard 160 degree version. It has a large spring at the pointy end.

If yer thermostat looks like this one, the spring and heat sender pelet,
goes toward the engine....Flat can end toward the radiator.

Great for cold country use. Keeps the engine at good operating temp.

Thanks GB. Thermostat looks like the one in your photo. I'll install it in the am.

True that these need to be closer to the head than the radiator?

Thanks.

Install it approx. 3/4" to 1" from the engine, spring toward the engine,
Then take a small zip tie and put it around the hose at the thermostat
can, and sinch it down tight. Keeps the therm. from sliding up the hose.
To install the therm., heat the hose end up with hot water, or heat gun,...
smear some lube into the end you are installing it into, and push it in.
Takes quite a bit of push to get it in. I use the heel of my hand to install mine. The 160* therm's are not as hard, as they are a bit smaller in circ!!!

HTH
BTW:.....With the ser# you post.....yer 8N must be a LATE 52...vrs a 54.
No 8N's were made later than 1952.
