Tire Chains

I'm looking to purchase a set of double ring chains for my 9N. I'm thinking of getting them from Tirechains.com-their prices look pretty reasonable. Do any of you have any experience with them or any other recommendations? I know there is plenty of good advice on this site available for the asking.

Thanks.

Hoolie.......lotta times you can gitt "free" 18-wheeler trucker chains 'cuz their lawyers make'em change to NEW every year. You can make'em fit fer cheap and lotta rubber bungee's. Simple, eh?

Yeah, dual-rings are slightly better than trucker chains......but "free" is good too .......Dell

That's where I bought these duo-links. Tirechains.com. I got these in mid 2006, and have not had any prob.s' with them.
Sit down when ya order them, cause the shipping is HIGHER than ya think, or at least it was from them to me here in MT.
Best set I ever owned though.!!!!

Hooligan, Where are you located? I am in Southern Illinois and it would only be around $40 to ship UPS ground.

I bought mine from Tirechains.com back in 2001 and they have worked well. I used mine while plowing my 1/4 mile drive when I lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I have the ladder chains.

We have run double rings on our 861 for many many years. Good for all around traction - not the best for ice, though. They have been in use so long that every once in a while, one of the rings wears through, so I just replace it with a cold shut & keep on tractor'N.

I'm in Upstate NY. I didn't even check the shipping price. I'll look into that.

Dell, I had a pair of oversized chains that a buddy gave me-used lots of bungees and they worked good with some readjusting through the winter but I like the look of nice tight fitting chains. I talked him into buying a new ('59 641 Workmaster) tractor this year so I plan on giving them back to him. Not to mention wifey needs some Christmas Ideas. /:<)

In the case of you being in Up-state NY....then the shipping prob. will not be as much as to me. Their store is in PA.
I hate to say this....my chains after cost and shipping was somewhere close to $250-$260. shipping just about killed that deal, but I wasn't quick enough in the brain dept. :(

Luck to ya.

I'm in Western Mass and got those very chains for my 8N and love them. I have ordered tire chains from them twice now and have never had any problems.

I put the Duo Grips on my Oliver and find the double rings on the 8N are better on ice and they were cheaper too.

Try Craigslist. I'm also in Upstate NY, 20 miles so-west of Albany. I got a pair off Craigslist that had never been used. $165 and I had to pick them up in Sharon Springs.

Under all that snow, is about 4" of solid ice. Never had a bit of prob. with my Duo-links, on the 2N, with-out loaded rears, pullin' the snow.
NO slippy-slidy at all. Just right speed, and right starting gear!!! 8)

These are for 12.4 x 24 tires. He'd be best to spend a little more and get the right chains for his tires. No chance of getting a worn out set that do not fit properly.

Probably far too late. But our local TSC had those chains on sale in late spring for $135.00 a pair! Needless to say I jumped on it.

Wow-$135/pr that's a steal! I saw some on Craigslist last winter but most people wanted $150 for a used set. I figure why pay that for used when I can get a brandy new set for just a little bit more. I will keep my eye open just in case something turns up.

Thanks for all the replies.
