Can anyone tell me exactly how i can tell if my govener is working correctly. I mow with a 72 inch finish mower and in taller grass she slows down a little. THANKS for the help!!

To test the governer... while it is idling reach and pull on the arms that hook to the carb linkage, if it pulls against you its working.((watch your fingers though)) Though that may not be the problem, that wide of a mower taking full bite in tall grass may be a bit much for the N. The way that you have the mower set can be a factor as well. You want the front of the mower higher than the back as to only cut the grass once as it passes through. If set with the front lower than the back it cuts the grass a couple hundred times as it passes over it. Hope this helps :D

Had to go back and re read that comment of mine and yes I did have it backward, I stand corrected. My brain kind of hurts today sorry for the mix up there :?

A 6 foot finish mower in grass much over 8 inches tall is a little much for a 2N, especially if it isn't a rear discharge - it'll do it, but you will probably have to mow in 1st and maybe even take a smaller bite - must also keep the blades super sharp for taller grass. When the grass gets away from me, I go to the 5 foot bush hog, which will work fine in any length grass.

You are right. Rear discharge makes all the difference in the world. I've had a Big Bee with no discharge(5 foot) and a Landpride(4 foot) side discharge and now a 6 foot First Choice rear discharge. I pull it with a Kubota 1500 which is 17 or 19 hp....Same tractor did good with the Big Bee..Land Pride was no good at all, never another LP implement on my place..First Choice is amazing. It with rear discharge is like I've added 10 hp to my tractor..Lots of rain lately so a vacant lot I have had gotten knee deep in thick Byhalia grass..It was no problem whatsoever. Rear discharge is a must as far as I'm concerned then the rest is all about how the tractor and the gearbox on the mower is "geared"..6 foot finish mower should be no problem for the 2N in 8 inch grass.

Hey all, I generaly keep the grass about 3 inches high and try to mow at about 4 or 5 inches. The mower is a 72 inch old king cutter that blows the clippings out both sides and the back. I mow in 2ond gear in the regular side of transmission, not the overdrive, about 1/2 throttle. If I try the overdrive in 1st gear it makes it worse. The tractor is strong in every other way pulling a 2 bottom plow and huge disc good, no smoke,no oil burn or misses. I am going to check the govenor today as you suggested. I will let you all know the resultes. THANKS!!
