I just failed in my attempt to convince the wife that a 32 hour round-trip drive is something done over a 2-day weekend.

Maybe one of you guys is closer or can better convince your SO.

Listen to your wife! You could probably do much better waiting for something to become available closer to you. How much is a 32 hour round trip at, say, forty cents a mile? plus food, etc. There isn't mention of any controls and the pump is missing. If it has weld repairs it has been abused sometime in it's history.
Be patient.

Now Dunk a loader back hoe set up on an 8N works just fine just a tad slow. I have had one for decades don't use it much but sure is handy to have around

I know, old.

But that tractor is dedicated to that purpose.

Why don't you bring that out and let me use it for a few months?!?!!?

Yep that is all it is used for and hasn't run in a year or so. When my dad got it back in the early 80s it had a rebuilt engine and probably hasn't had more then 500 hours put on it. We call it the NERD because it is all it can do to move its self and frogot going up a hill back wards unless you pull it up with the back hoe but it will;l dig about 18 foor down unless you hit rock

Ask her again and say that 'the other guys on the fourm do it'

2 ys in a row I've had the fun opportunity to make red eye drives out of state on weekends to grab tractors. last year it was a 19hr trip each way to texas to get a 951 from AWHTX and meet his family, and this year is was a 9hr trip each way to lousiana to grab a 541 and meet johninla as an extra benefit. ( both trips I took a friend and we took turns driving/sleeping)

Nondem,

I have a Dearborn loader with manure bucket - needs hoses replaced and mounting brackets, but otherwise looks complete. I decided against putting it on my 8N because I use the tractor for so many other things a loader would get in the way of...

If you're anywhere near Peoria, IL, and interested, give me a shout. I'd take $100 for it in a heartbeat.

UPDATE - I originally wrote it has no pump, but after thinking about it, I think it does, and is just missing the stinger shaft to the crank. Can check when I get home.

Thanks for the offer I don't think I can sell her on the idea. I was showing pictures of Chicago to try to persuade her. I almost had her till I accidentally mentioned Oprah and external_link were both from there. Now I don't think I'll ever get back to Peoples Republic of Chicago :)

I realize the 8n is not the right tractor for loader work.
I would like to have one to putz with though....Looks like it would be easy/cheap to restore one.
