throttle linkage on 9N

Well I am starting a new thread as the old one is pages back. I have checked the throttle linkage and it appears intact. I can move it by hand and the spring moves it back and forth either with the throttle or at the end by the generator. Starts but runs wide open. I haven't replaced the hairspring on the choke butterfly but it was running before without that so...unless it is stuck open? Even stuck open I don't thing the engine would be flat out running with a stuck open choke. Next step after you folks is the handy mechanic, Sorenson Trucks. The fellow who owns it knows much about these old Fords.

Thanks again in advance

Yes that seems likely doesn't it? It was working before the tangle in the mower with the cable so...I am going to call the mechanic tomorrow.

Caroline.......disconnect the throttle linkage between the governor and yer carb. They are "spring-loaded" ball couplers. That should STOP yer WOT. Then gitt'chur carb side-pointing idlemix adjusted and yer behind the carb idlespeed screw to incredibly slooooow 400-rpms. ......Dell, PS.....I'm available for service calls and I work cheap

do check to see if the throttle butterfly is not stuck open.. I just pulled my naa out of the barn and it's butterfly was stuck wide open.. had to pull the carb to free it up.

post back.

(quoted from post at 11:16:01 05/19/09) yes I will check that especially since I didn't install the hairspring.

will post an update later

Ok mechanic was here and I have now paid a total of $275.00 for a fixed up tractor. However I had the choke flapper installed upside down. The idle set screw had fallen out (not the mix adjustment) there was no tensioning spring in my rebuild kit and there wasn't one on my screw so I just put it back in and it kept unscrewing and raising the throttle. ugh. I should have noticed that duh!

Thanks everyone,
and Dell no yelling about paying a mechanic!
