My neighbor asked if I wanted to be partners with him. He wants to fix the 8N up and sell it. S/N 8N429507 All tires are brand new. Has not run in a couple years. A guy started the restoration (tires only) and lost interest. He told the neighbor he could use his trailer to haul it if he came and picked it up right away. HE GAVE IT TO HIM!!! When we get a few other projects done, we'll see about her conditions (internally). Fluids are dirty, but not real bad. Not a bad deal, eh??

I have always really liked FREE!!!!!!!

I'll give you your money back if you will send me the rear tires....

Free is never a bad deal but limit how much money you put into it if you plan to sell it for profit. Even with no initial cost it is easy to spend money that you cannot recover.

My 15 yr. old has a 41 9N and he's drooling over it already. About owns it, except he hasn't paid for it. We'll tear into it later to see how well all is inside. Got some damage. Front grill might get reworked. Dash has been butchered a bit. Guy said it all worked when it was parked a few years ago (I know thats what they all say. He knows the guy well that gave it to him) Gonna be another fun project.

I hear ya. Free can get really costly. Thats why we'll go over it real good first.
Got my 58 - 861 for $400 and so far put about $250 to be able to work it hard. So far, so good on that one.

Petra,

Biggest mistake I made was selling a tractor I got free. A few years later, I saw that it was neglected and abused and it broke my heart. So I wanted to buy it back (had sold it to the guy for $400...a friend who really needed a tractor). So when I wanted to buy it back, the guy's sleazy wife says she's heard it is a valuable collector model and wants $2000 for it in non running neglected condition. The friendship was seriously strained, but I got it back for $600 (he had put 2 new tires on it). And his crap-sucking wife got a load of stuff dumped in her ear!

OMG, put it in safe storage until you and your son have time and $$ to fix it up right. And take pride in your father/son accomplishment!!

Might be a profitable investment IF the engine is in good shape (compression and oil pressure). If it requires a complete rebuild, would be difficult to make a profit......

Here's my 'freebie'- '45 2N, has NEW rears (nubbins still on the treads), came with a disc, 16" Ferguson plow, small Howard Rotovator, rear blade (minus frame). Ring gear was shot and it sat outside for too long so pistons rusted to cyls. Split now , block 'boiled', crank and brgs. good. Just waiting to save for an engine kit.

Bob, Nice looking freebie. Our 9N was also painted as a redbelly when we got it. We've rebuilt the engine in that one also. Ran good when we got it, just a little low on compression. Thanx for the picture.
