'49 8N Oil pressure

I have a friend that has a 49 8N......he says that when he runs it it has around 50psi oil pressure but when he has ran for a while the pressure soon drops to zero.......he asked the local shop what they thought it was and they told him it needed the crank ground.......this just sounds odd to me......he also says that as the pressure drops the tractor seems to have a loss in HP also............any ideas I can give him?

Is it really at zero? or close to zero.
Many a good ol' tractor runs at 5 or 10 psi.
First thing I would do is move to a 15-40 or 15-50 multi vis oil. The thicker oil will help a little when it gets hot, but I would be careful depending on the climate. The HP loss does sound like a real problem, if really at zero, then time for a rebuild.

classic worn oil pump... though might certaintly be getting wide bearing clearances as well too.

it's tired and is asking for a lil maintenance... sound slike it may be running thick oil , and hav ethe oil relief plungers spring stretched a lil to get 50 psi at startup.. that is.. if the gauge is good.

I always replace the 10$ gauge 1st any time there is an oil pressure question..
