"Expert" lol!

I hope nobody here advised this guy about the ID of his tractor!

[b:5940a13b7c]I[/b:5940a13b7c] don't claim to be an 'expert', but I know how to learn from them! Peering closely at the pics, I see an ignition switch on the column...zerks on the rear of the axles...trans dipstick on the right...can almost see starter button in front of the shifter...split steering arms...how am I doing so far?

On the other hand, it looks like someone could get a decent N tractor with a Sherman for a pretty good price.

I'm a long, long way from being an expert (I'd call myself a moderately-well-read newbie), but I see what looks like an alternator, which would indicate a 12V conversion. And of course somebody repainted it in 8N colors quite some time ago, or just really poorly. Rear hubs look like 2N, definitely not 9N, but rear fenders with script are 8N, aren't they?

I think what we have here is what the Brits call a "bitsa", i.e., a few bits (parts) from this and a few bits from that. And I'm betting there are a couple of digits missing from the back end of that serial number.

Looks like a mutt. I see one I beam radius rod and one is tubular. looks like the spindles have a key way. I think it is another 289 tractor

I'm not disagreeing on the mutt, but in the close-ups it's clear that it has i-beam radius rods on both sides. In the longer shot, the right side looks tubular due to poor focus.

Not that this is in any way important. It's just my OCD kicking in. :D
