1950 Ford 8N Valve Removal

Is there any secret to loosening the valve seats so that they will slide down and allow the retension clip to be removed? Last night I started them soaking in Marvel Mystery Oil. I have a couple of broken springs and I need to remove the valves?

Thanks,

Hiney

You are trying to remove the VALVE GUIDES, (HOPEFULLY not the seats)!

Use some "loosen juice" and get a little rough with them, and they will move.

Good catch Bob, I did mean the valve guides and not the seats. I have them soaking, so I will have to try to use a little force and see if they will move.

Hiney:

Usually you can force them down by inserting a pry bar that is bent on the end through the ports and applying downward force. Don't over do the force.

If all else fails, remove the valve keepers, retainers and springs, and drive them downward with a brass drift.
