If any of ya'll travel with your laptop how do you connect to internet?
I've got an old laptop (ebay special) but it only has Win 95 on it & my Charter software disc only works with 98 & newer.
Can I sign up with some provider for a month? Only need about a weeks worth. Do any of the dial-ups still work with an old OS like this?

The dial ups don't care what the OS is.

Jon:

Going out of town? headed anywhere near Seeley Lake MT? Just watch out for the maids in them motels! LMAO.

He might, I'll bring extra beer just in case
Busch Light, in the bottle!

Man I wish I was heading NW. Gonna go down past Jim SC's, through Dunks territory & out past Sounders to SW Florida. My wife is a 4th generation Floridian & some of her family is gettin together next week.
Ya reckon it'll be hot down there??

I haven't had this laptop out since I used it 3 years ago & forgot I'd downloaded a free version of NetZero then. I just hooked it up & it still works. Slow as molasses but at least I can get online.

I have in the last couple of years used a long distance calling card(cheap) And dialed into my ISP...If your lap top has wifi(FREE) you should be able to search for a signal...I been using my new phone latelylll Nice connection matches DSL...Down fall is a small screen. Beats nothing...

This thing is so old & outdated I think Moses used it.
I wondered how those new phones were doing. I might orta look into that when the current one dies.

I live in a location with no DSL or Cable. I use Verizon wireless. Card fits in my lap top. Use it at home and at work. About the same monthly cost as DSL. Works just about everywhere.

We just got back from a 4800 mile driving vacation. Every hotel we stayed in had free wireless internet. Most of them also had a ethernet port for folks that do not have wireless. It requires your NIC to be configured DHCP.

Does your laptop have a ethernet jack, it is a tad bigger than a phone jack. Their is usually a pamphlet with instructions.

same thing for me, no DSL or cable available here, so I do the Werizon Wireless deal. Mine is a USB device that will plug into any computer with a USB port. Not cheap, but it works well here on the east coast....decent Verizon coverage. I even emailed my brother from my deer stand last year, just because I could!

Dial up ?? Heck around here we use semaphore flags and smoke signals and eventually the message gets to a neighbor 12 Km. away and HE's got the 'lectricity!

Jon, we are 25 miles off of I-77, 20 miles from I-26, and less than 10 miles from I-20. (I-95 is about 65 miles from us)
You are welcome to stop and "smell the roses" or otherwise have a cool one, etc, on your way to or from Florida.
