I can't believe what people spend money for. Probably, our tax money.

If all tractors were made like this, and I came up with a tractor that would run on a $40 tank of gas and one 6 volt battery, they would think I was a genius.

I guess now that I mention it, Henry Ford was.

(quoted from post at 15:10:08 07/18/08) Is that Al Gore driving??

(quoted from post at 16:15:06 07/18/08) Pure "Idiot Bait", no doubt influenced by that Loony Toon, AlGore.
Mr. Bob

Yes, ... the world should safely rest confident upon the wisdom such as you express. Keep burning that Middle Eastern stuff! Pay anything for it, incuding our grandchildren's total loss of quality of life! We don't care! We're [b:21ad3d10ca]'MERICANS![/b:21ad3d10ca]

Wonder if it was beefed up if it'd qualify for the NY ROPs rebate?

Could not have said it better myself. I have 3 young ones 6,8 and 14...They better go to collage and pick a profession that pays good. Just got gas. 9 gallons to top off the N and stuck the nozzle in my truck. Shut of at 85 bucks on my debit card. Truck went from a quarter to a half...

gahorN what does it cost to fill your plane these days? How many gallons?

i see one thing left out of the picture.
what's it cost to charge those batteries?
how much to replace when they crap out?
how much hazardous waste from disposing of those batteries?
i could go on...

al gore is NOT an idiot, he'd have to get conciderably smarter for that....

Idiots aren't awarded Nobel prizes.

Batteries can be recycled. Exhaust fumes cannot. Now, who's the idiot?

Really?
How did Jimmy Carter get his?

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter won the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for decades of work seeking peaceful solutions and promoting social and economic justice.
What have YOU done for humanity?

He's a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, with a degree in nuclear physics, and that's not something idiots accomplish. (He's the ONLY graduate to become President.)

Your ridulously crude and ignorant slander of a truly Great American who served and still serves us all bespeaks the smallness of your own pitiful outlook.

AT least Carter & Nixon wanted to drill more wells,,it might have made a differance now,,mrs carter said Billey was the smart one..I didnt like paying 17% when I had to build my house.

Shucks,
If I had known I had to be a contender for the Nobel Peace prize before I could criticize a current or former president I would have kept my mouth shut.
Does the same rule apply to Al Gore whom I believe is a lout and a charlatan?

In my own defense I did recieve a Humanitarian Service Medal once upon a time.
It's not enough to get me a Nobel I know but perhaps it's enough to let me have and voice an opinion.

What is more, sir, in the decades since his award, he has an alarming tendency to cozy up to dictators of all murderous stripes, provided their political leanings are leftist. Check out his record. Check out the fact that he attributes almost every world problem to Israel, Jews, or America.

His volunteer work, Habitat for Humanity etc. are and have always been admirable and a great example. But "economic justice" - you mean the code term for redistributing wealth, i.e. socialism - along with the rest of non-fringe America, I say no thanks.

You're entitled to your opinion of the man, but geez, it was just a little harmless fun. Lighten up.

You conveniently forgot to mention that jimmy Carter was the worst president we ever had. All of that other crap doesn't mean diddly. Worst president ever. Plain and simple. PS. I've lived thru a lot of them and wasn't fond of most but none can even come close to Carter in being just plain STUPID!

mm, neat idea. Obviously not very a practical setup but still. You gotta start somewhere and try different ideas I suppose with the way oil has been. Read some quotes by Thomas Edison, it pretty much sums up this experiment http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Thomas_Edison

Sean, You have to realize that it's us common people that need to drive electric tractors, not the elitists that tell us we should. The rules don't apply to them because, well, they're better than us. They will keep flying around in their private planes casting blame on the unwashed masses that are destroying the earth.

I'll comment on that. My personal 1953 Cessna 170B is an antique. It is similar in many respects to N-Fords that are sometimes collected by hobbyists. It burns aviation gasoline that costs about a dollar or two more than auto gas. The aviaition gasoline market (as opposed to the jet-fuel market) is an amazingly small portion of the U.S. gasoline market. (Don't recall exactly but something less than 2%.) My airplane is used much less than most of our fellow readers/participants use their ATVs, boats, etc. and probably contributes more to the general welfare than those other "toys" when I donate it's transportation advantages to Angel Network and other such activities wherein children with cancer and burns (who are placed at increased risk when they travel publicly) are flown directly to the local hospitals that treat them.

Ultradog, I'm not trying to demean you or your contributions to the country. I'm just trying to invoke a little more civility and appreciation for the people who have done so much for our country and fellow citizens on THEIR OWN INITIATIVE. The political hate that goes on these days is destructive to our common good. Your comments have the appearance of hating a man with whom you may disagree and who has erred perhaps, but who nonetheless has demonstrated loyalty, trustworthiness, and dedication to his fellow Americans and to humanity at large. It is unbecoming and counterproductive for you to be so full of hate for someone simply because you have an opposing political viewpoint.

The Humanitarian Service Medal you claim to have been awarded is usually given to whole units of the military and National Guard in recognition for public service for which they were obligated by oath to accomplish. I do not mean to diminish those accomplishments, but unless you have some individual award or reason for individual recognition, then your claim is largely ceremonial in nature, and not nearly in comparison to the discussion at hand.

You have your right to opinion, of course! I just hope you'll spend your efforts attacking our enemies, not our fellow Americans and friends such as Jimmy Carter. (Who, by the way had inherited a recession from the Ford administration. Despite wide-scale blame for woes of the economy, the Carter administration was beset by a huge trade-deficit which drove the value of the dollar down ...(sound familiar?).... and he was a fiscal conservative who encouraged efforts to increase domestic drilling. He elevated the Dept's of Education and Energy to cabinet positions.)

As for claims that Carter ruined the economy and Reagan saved it, here's the unbiased view:

Well GahorN.
I will commend you for your attempt at raising the level of discussion. Though I must admit I fail to see how sentences such as "[i:654c4848f0]Your ridulously crude and ignorant slander of a truly Great American who served and still serves us all bespeaks the smallness of your own pitiful outlook.[/i:654c4848f0]" will accomplish that.
When I see the level of hate and invective that is daily directed at the current President - who I voted for twice and still support - I figure that all is fair in love and politics.
Secondly, The medal business was meant to be tongue in cheek. I don't place a whole lot of value in a ribbon I didn't know I had recieved till 25 years after I got out. I do think it has earned me the right to voice my opinion however.
Just as it along with $1.50 should entitle me to a free cup of coffee.

As for Jimmy Carter - who I voted for, once! - I see most of his work since his presidency as largely an attempt to "fix" his legacy which is that of being the worst president in my lifetime.
And his as well as Al Gore's Nobel Prize are rather tainted in my eyes by a belief that the entire Nobel award system so heavily slanted to the left as to make the prize reek and diminish it's laurels to the recipient.
Finally, though you may find Gore and Carter and Shumer, Kennedy, Pelosi, Wellstone, The Clintons, etc to be (or have been) Great Americans, I happen to see them as being entirely bad for this country and look upon them as my enemy more than I do the Bin Ladens of the world.
Lastly, though I freely admit to having enemies, I'll be happy to dispute with you whether I am full of hate as you so blithely accuse me of.
I'm a staunch nnalert but I don't hate the nnalert. I just wish to utterly defeat them.

But let's get back to tractors shall we?

Years ago i saw on tv where an I.U. professer fixed up a car to run on compressed air. now the french have designed a car to do that . Its still in the designing stages but i think that is the future if the big oil companies dont try to crush it. Just think Not having to pay a fuel bill!!We already run factories on compressed air.

Just curious, but what are we going to compress it with?

Coal, petrol, water power?

...
Feel free to move in with him. Since your president thinks him "irrelevant", you'll both be safe.

I thought I was going to read about a solar powered tractor. Instead I get a lot information which is not needed here. By the way I lived in GA for 25 years and voted for Carter for Gov. and President. I am a native Texan, My family has been here since 1835. So I am a Texan and proud of it. I have nevervoted for George Bush, or "W" as some know him. He is not a Texan he just lived here. He is leading the pack for worse
presidents. My opinion and I am sticking to it.
