one bottom turning plow?

I just ran across a single blade turning plow. It has a Fergason plate on it. I couldn't read it because I didnt have my glass's with me, but took some pict. and when wife gets home I will let her get them off of my cell phone. I was wondering what this might be worth, I have been looking for a two bottom plow without any luck. Was wondering what I should be looking for on this plow since I am not a plow guy..lol...Any help would be grateful...

Well right now all I see for plowing is around an acre, more or less. And as far as sitting a plow up right, it will be more of me getting abook, and asking questions on here when the time comes so I dont send the nose of it to china digging to deep. lol... This plow I know has been sitting there for over a yr, so I am thinking of looking around this weekend for a two bottom plow, and if I dont find one, that I can afford than I might just go with this for now. If not and someone else wants it, it is in south central okla. I will give u directions right too it. Its just about four miles from my house.

well i don't know about a 2 bottom and clay but i think it would be pretty hard. that one bottom to me would be ok depending on how much you want to turn over.

i know that there were some people looking for 1 bottoms on ebay a while back and paying good money for them.

also, i disagree with the statement of the N tractors pulling a two bottom plow. they have plenty of power for that if it is done correctly.
even old quack grass won't stop my 8n with 2 bottom.

if you have good shares and your plow is set correctly...i mean pitched right...then that tractor will pull a 2 bottom without great effort.

i say take it for $100 without hesitating. use it until you find a 2 bottom or keep it.

Hndy--I would pick that plow up for $100 right away. However, unless your ground is real hard, I agree with the others that a decent N tractor was made to pull a 2 bottom plow.

This is a pic of mine breaking new sod in an old pasture this Spring. It had no problem and was turning furrows down to 8"---even surprised a few of my "real farmer" neighbors.

dont know what to do. My ground here is a hard clay. And I mean hard when it drys out. I am still thinking on this one.. Don't really know what to try.

I never did figure out how to plow decently with a one bottom, although only did it once (borrowed from neighbor). Grew up with a Dearborn 12" 2 bottom and now have a 14" 2 bottom. 12" works better in clay - old Henry really grunts with the 14" in clay - chains and weight just make it.

handy..... ...don't waste yer time, Fergy tag or not. Its a 16" plow. Yer 8N is designed to pull 2-14" bottoms. Keep looking. What's it worth, dunno, $100 maybe? Would you believe yer 8N-Ford Owners manual ($14, cheap) has 16-pages of plow information??? Conveniently sold by our hosts, Yesterdays Tractors..... ...Dell

Thanks for the reply so fast. I just saw it sitting out by the road and stopped and looked at it. The old farmer came out and said he wanted a 100.00 (U were right On Price) for it. I told him I had to do some checking before I would let him know anything... Thanks Again

Around here a one bottom is worth as much or more than a two.
Maybe it's because of our claey loam soil that is too tough for one of these small tractors to pull two bottoms.
BTDT I bought a 2-14 Dearborn to pull behind a 2N and it was pretty well a failure. Not enough traction.
So I bought a set of wheel weights and tried it and just plumb didn't have enough horsepower even with a good running N.
So I bought a Ferguson one bottom like you describe and it was a good match for the N.
Plowed deep and steady.
Most folks forget that though these Ns were designed to pull two 14s it was in lighter soils or land that was being worked every year.
Most of us nowadays are trying to break sod with them for a deer plot or a garden and 2 bottoms are just too much for an N to pull.
I loaned my 2-14 to a neighbor with an Ford 850 = 40+ hp. That was a good combo breaking sod even though the 850 was a 3 bottom tractor.
I would NOT pass up a decent 1-16" Ferguson for a hundred dollars.

same story as Ultradog,maybe with new weighted tires I could have pulled the 2-14 I had,but just not enough traction as it was in sod..traded the 2-14 for a 1-16 and been happy with it for many years,but it's never done more than a couple acres at a time..

I agree wif Ultradog and Tim, you would not be wasting yer time to buy it fer $100.00. I paid $200.00 fer my single bottom plow,unknown make,but heavier built than that one looks to be. I would buy that one in a hurry, and I don't need another one.

I agree w/the last three replies. My 1941 9N didn't do too well w/2 bottom in my clay, I flipped one of the beams downside up to convert to single bottom & it worked great after that. It could handle the single 14" bottom in any of my clay & plow deep too!

jim, your 9n doesn"t have the power of a 2N or 8N. but i do agree that traction is key. newer tires work well while older tires, well, they just don"t.
