WE are ready to paint our 8N Ser# *8N211020* (which I believe makes it a 1949. Im not sure which are the correct colors for this tractor. I saw the pictures or the 1950 that was posted and that grey looks like its the one for this tractor too. I checked the color codes but am still confused. Can anyone tell me what colors I need> Thank You.

I am having trouble finding the right paint. The local supplier tells me the PPG DAR 70075 and the PPG DAR 31657 numbers are not shown in their computer. I would prefer to use Dupont paints but the numbers will not cross. Any help? ? ? Thanks, Darryl

WOW. You all are a wealth of information. Thank you for the charts & codes. I was getting so much different information I didnt know what to do. I knew from going to tractor and machinery shows there were different colors being used on the fords and some I liked better than others, but yes I would like the new paint regardless of the colors. Paul I couldnt agree more 8N"s should never be painted blue, they should be grey and red IMHO.
Thank you all again. Ive been fretting over this for weeks & weeks.

I did the same research a few months ago and have listed in the chart below the most-often recommended brands and colors of paint that I found. Don"t put too much faith in the actual colors on your screen since every monitor is different.

Ford 8N Colors:

Rust Oleum - 7762 Sunrise Red

PPG DAR 70075

TISCO Ford Red

Rust Oleum - 7755 Light Olive

PPG DAR 31657

TISCO Light Gray

Geo,

This is a controversial subject. The original gray was darker gray than most are using now, and the original red was a darker red than most are using now.

The Ford dealers in the 70's began selling the lighter (almost white) gray, the same as what was being used with their blue and light gray thousand series tractors. To compliment that, they were selling a more orange red than the original dark red.

The Ford dealers had also been instructed by the Ford company to paint all used tractors they had for sale with the blue color. It was supposed to make them look newer.

So, the story is a mess, and you get to choose whether you want to "be original" with the darker gray and darker red, or be more modern with the lighter gray and more orange red. But most of us agree that the blue is just awful and should not be on the N tractors. I have 3 of the big blue Ford tractors, and they look good when painted and clean, but in my mind it just is not right for an 8N.

Some of the other guys have found the colors they like, but I have used the lighter gray and red colors from the FNH dealer. Your tractor will look good either way.

I am sure there will be a few different answers , and I'm not here to say one is right or wrong .I have bought paint from a few different suppliers and they are all a little off from one another. The bottom line is it will look great when your done whichever shade you use.
