My lift arms hit the ground when lowered and don't raise as high as expected. I have adjusted the quadrant by loosening the 4 bolts and moving it, but didn't make it lift much higher. Is there anything else I can do to make it lift higher?

Do you have the dreaded "extensions" that they made for the Sickle Bar mower?? It replaces the cross-looking thing with one that is 6+" longer to allow the mower to cut lower. It will allow the arms to drag on the ground when installed.

ernie,
You"re gonna have to be the detective on this. Presuming you have the tractor on relatively flat ground and the lower lift arms are about level (by adjusting the leveling box), the shaft of the leveling box crank should hit the axle trumpet before the lower lift arm hits the ground.
I"m pretty sure Hobo is correct on the arms having a master spline, so that would seem to leave something bent or incorrect parts for an 8N as possibilities.
Your description makes me think the problem is outside the aft end of the lift cover, but just to be sure, please pull the right hand inspection plate (with the dipstick) and see if the control rod from the top linkage to the pump is straight. HTH

ernie,
Check the chains that attach to the lower end of the lift rod and leveling box. Make sure they are on the correct side; that is, the brackets that attach either side of the PTO on the other end of the chains should have the short side UP.
Trust me; they can be installed on the wrong side. :o(

I have seen lift arms that if fastened to the tractor on the opposite end, it would change the depth of the end. In other words the hole where the crank fastens to the lift arms wasnt inthe 1/2 way point on the lift arms.

If both lower lift arms are dragging the ground I would say your upper lift arms were installed in the wrong position on the rockshaft.

Was the rockshaft or bushings serviced recently?

Far as I know the uppers are master splined and only fit one way. The arms will fit either side same part #
