A bit off topic, but we have been striking out on identifying the engine in a newly purchased, but 10 year old bucket lift. The lift brand is a Simon, but the engine is a Ford and looks like a 2300. But it may be smaller. It is an overhead cam with the designation of VSG413 according to the operators manual. However, the engine numbers mean nothing to local parts houses. Most of the parts have to be common with more common engines. We already discovered the starter seems to be the same as a Ford Ranger, but we have not managed to find a carb kit even with the numbers on the tag. Can anyone head us in the right direction?

Yes, Ford did make a VSG413 industrail engine. It was part of their Valencia line. You will want to contact a Ford Power Products industrial dealer like Engine Power in Wisconsin. Their number is 800-585-7514. Philip.

Tom,

I do not recognize the number, but one time I was working on the engine of an off brand skid steer, and it turned out to be a Ford Industrial motor. There is a completely different parts distribution system and different part numbers for the industrial engines. The parts prices were far higher too. Maybe you need to check in that direction.

Thanks to Phillip and Paul. We did talk to a dist in Pittsburg, but they came up dry on the carb kit. We are now waiting from a kit from Zenith, which hopefully is the right one.

I had a horrible time trying to get a kit. I converted to a 1975/6 Chevy chevette & made a simple adapter = Mine is on a Hustler 12 foot mower & it works fine.
