I'm new to using this forum but hope some one out there can help. i recently obtained an 8n with front end loader. its an early one with dist mounted on the front. it sat outside in the weather for over a year with no covering.i went over the dist and got it running good but the clutch doesnt respond.i assume its stuck to the flywheel.it was running well when parked. i shifted into 1st gear without the clutch but had to shut it down with the key as its in the woods and otherwise would hav hit a tree. can anyone out there suggest a solution to this problem? i can probably get it out of gear by pullin it backward with another tractor and pulling on the shifter at the same time. any help will be appreciated thanks, bob ensign

You almost got it. Instead of missing the trees
I would start in 2nd hold clutch down, low speed,
brakes on, into a large tree. Nothing fast or dangerious just enough to load down the clutch.
Also, dont mess the front grill up.

You can try all the things you find in the archives by using search with keywords "stuck clutch". Mine stuck so hard I had to split the tractor and replace the clutch. On inspection it was rusted to the flywheel with no possibility of coming off. Splitting the tractor isn't that tough and there is a lot of info in th archives by searching "splitting tractor".

Thats a common problem with a good number of tractors. The Ns are real good for that problem. 2 things to do. First is the always block the pedel down when not used. Next to get it loose is to get it where you can drive the devil out of it, hold the pedel down and just drive til;l your blue in the face or till it pops loose. Hitting the brakes helps but be careful doing so can throw you to one side or the other and cause control problems.

Might be able to block the clutch down and let it set for a few days.

Other people have reported pulling the tractor.. or even driving it around with the clutch blocked. You might tow it out of the woods then drive it. Some people have had to pry the clutch off with a screwdriver.. etc.
