Yugo got caught by the FTC installing rebuilt Fiat engines into thier cars and selling them as new. Seems there was a ship heading out with about 23,000 used engines from Fiats. The serial numbers were recorded and the ship was left to go away with nothing said...A few months later, those same serial numbers showed up in new Yugo"s...Oops. That does help to explain most of the oil leaks on new engines..Then Russia went away and so did Yugoslavia...

Last Bricklin announced plans to start manufacturing Yugo's with restyled front end sheet metal. Don't know what happened. I wonder if they make ladder-racks for Yugo's?

The only car to go over the side to the Mackinac Bridge, which is between the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, and is longer than the Golden Gate Bridge, was a Yugo. The wind blew it up and over the side of the bridge. Yes, the State of Mich. paid handsomely for letting a Yugo on the bridge. Good luck with your Yugo's. Ron

Around here there's a limo service that has a stretch Hummer in their fleet. The thing has to be at least 40 feet long. It completely defeats any purpose you can name other than the "gee whiz" factor. All terrain vehicle? Forget it! It's so long you'd get high centered anywhere. Comfort and luxury? In a Hummer? Have you ever ridden in one of those things?

There is a Yugo dealer in Reno Nevada. That was all he carried about 10 years ago. Nothing on his lot that was over 300.00. They were only made for a few years. I had one that was two years old and only paid 300.00. I drove it for a few years then sold it for 500.00. They were a throw a way car.

Believe it or not, I bought one brand new in '87 for $2,999 and 2 box tops from Cheerios. The best vehicle investment I ever had. You ever know of any vehicle as being a good investment?

I got 32 miles per gallon. Replaced a clutch and timing belt along with normal wear and tear items. All in all spend $4,000 plus gas in 8 years. How's that?

It was a disposable car and a beer can on wheels. I'd never own anything else like it again. But it got me through some money pinching times for a few years. Got me from point A to point B. That's all I needed.

The Yugo, "Guaranteed to come in second in any accident!!"

LOL,
Tyman

Back when I lived in NY, I used to haul away junk cars with my car carrier- This lady calls me up, says she has a Yugo that runs- I tell her I'll charge her $35 to take it away. I get the "car"(I use the term lightly!) and sell it for $125 to a regular customer who buys vehicles for the roll-overs at the local racetrack (Object of contest: Who can make their car flip the most consecutive times). The customer tells me a few weeks later: "I usually where a three point harness. This one time I didnt(while rolling the Yugo)- the seatbelt in the Yugo BROKE and I landed on my head!!"

He never bought another car from me!

Yugos were equipped with rear window defrosters as standard equipment.

To keep your hands warm while you push them.

Is that $79.00 to buy it, or they pay you $79 if you take it off their hands?

Remember years ago when a guy named Ray Brock [I think] was writing an auto column in Popular Mechanics. Somebody asked him what was a fair price for a Hudson Terraplane. He answered $75.00--$25.00 to haul it off and $50.00 to bury it. Times haven't changed that much.

Your mileage may vary
