I haven't had that problem with my 47 8N, it might be that your transmission fluid (80-90 wt gear lube) might need changing. If so, drain all three cavities, rear, center and front, and replace the fluid. Holds 5 gals, but I only put 4 1/5 back in, don't want to overfill it. Also, if you check the archives they have a different type of fluid to put back into it if your system works great. I put back in the 80-90 wt because my system leaks internally and it won't drop the 3pt very fast. The new hyrdraulic fluid is "runnier" and without a tight system it will not hold the 3 pt hitch up very long. Good luck. Also, just a thought, if you have the old Push starter by the shifter if it is not coming up all the way it too will not allow the tractor to be put in gear. Just a thought, it might be in need of some cleaning. Good luck
