I just bought a small 3-point backhoe attachment for my tractor. It fit right on and works good but is kind of shaky on the 3-point hitch. It is not mounted solid enough to lift the back of the tractor and move it around with the backhoe boom. It also seems like it would be very rough on the 3-point hitch especially where the top link attaches to the spring on the tractor. I would like to build a small frame to fit under the tractor, maybe attaching it on the bottom of the axles under the fender mounts and at some other point(s) so that the backhoe would be solidly attached to the tractor without using the 3-point hitch. Has anyone else done anything like this and could maybe post some pictures of it. It is much eaiser to build one after having looked at some than dragging it out of my head from the start. Any input and any ideas would be very much appreciated. The tractor is a Ferguson TO-20 but they are so much like an 8 or 9N that I should be able to adapt some of your ideas.

Hi Terry,
I have a 841 with a Sherman I-9 Backhoe on it. The frame that it mounts to is pretty simple. I don't know if I can describe it but I'll try. There is a 3" channel iron beam that runs from the front of the tractor (there is a mounting plate added) under the axle ending just past the axle. The beam is attached to a mounting plate on the front and a bracket that hangs off the fender mounting pad. A second beam comes off the first beam at about the front of the seat and rises up over the axle and stopps at a mounting pad in the same plane as the lower beam. This arrangement is repaeted on the other side of the tractor and the backhoe is then fastened to the four mounting points. I have the Cadplans backhoe plans but they are designed to mount on the three point. Let me know if I can be of any help.
Chuck

Could you e-mail me a copy of the set of plans you have, I'd like to make me up a frame mount bracket for my tractor and don't know beans about what size metal or where to mount it.
