It's been a while since I posted so I thought an update was due - especially since so many of you gave me good advise! Some background for the new folks: 47 8N, 6 volt front distributor. Tractor sat for about 45 days and when I went to start it, no go. Tried junping with 12v to starter (learned that here) and still no go (good battery, I had it tested). Decided it was time to go over electrical and fuel system since the old gal had breaking/cracked wires and I hadn't been through the fuel system in the 2 years I had owned her. Put in new wiring harness, new points, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, coil, voltage regulator(changed to new "C" version), new (correct size) battery cables, new ammeter, condenser. Cleaned and installed rebuild kit in carb, cleaned all of the filters/strainers in the fuel system, and reset the little ball on the back of the throttle lever(learned that here too!). After all that, I couldn't coax a reliable spark out of the ole gal. Went thru the distributor again (ended up being 4 times) and checked bushings (OK), cam and flyweights. Got another new coil, points and condenser, recleaned all contacts and tried again. No Go! Pulled Distributor again and checked the thin copper strip in the distributor and mine had broken. Replaced the strip with one from an old set of points, still no go. Called in the Tech Assist (some good friends from Church who have and work on classic cars and tractors). On the second assist, a friend found that the condenser was grounding out the points and affecting the sparkies. Yesterday I charged up the 6v battery, replaced the gasket in the sediment bowl (started to leak after I recleaned it)and tried once again. It took a number of tries and I finally used a 12v starter jump to spin the engine over a little faster and IT STARTED!!! I couldn't get the idle speed down and it smoked like a smudge pot (lots of oil and MMO in cylinders) and I have discovered that I need to replace the exhaust/muffler based on the leaks I could see. The rings may need to get freed up after not running for almost a year too. Now I am going to put it back together neatly (new plug wires in the tube, new fuel line, new starter switch (old one was incorrect type), new headlight/worklight wiring and switch. I have new filter and oil for a change-out and 5 gal of 134 to complete the changes. I may look at a governor rebuild kit soon too. I can hardly wait to start working on the leaking rear seals and redoing the brakes!
Thanks for all the suggestions and help I have received here from many good folks!

Sounds like a lot of effort well spent. I personally don't like the 134 hydraulic fluid unless the system has been rebuilt. Even then I usually stay with gear oil, like original. It is not so much the "original nut" syndrom but more of that is the way it was designed.
I also believe in single viscosity oil for the engine, 30wt summer, 20wt winter. I have seen too many using 10w30 or whaterver and smoke. Again, that is the way they were designed.
