To all, I could use a bit of help on my 8N front mount dist.
It was converted to 12v by the previous owner. It was a kit, with 3 wire alt. It still has square type coil but I am unsure if it is 12 or 6 v. it was running through an inline resistor and then to key without going to the ballast resistor. It was working well then recently I had the key on run and got distracted for a few minutes. I noticed smoke coming out of the hood and quickly turned the key off. Upon inspection, the inline resistor was burning, though not completely through, it was still connected by one fine wire. I assumed that all I needed to do was replace the resistor, which I did with 8n 10306 12v to 6v resistor. The tractor turns but would not attempt to start. If I put the old resistor back on still held together with the one fine wire, it starts? So where do I go from here?
