Tim PloughNman Daley RIP

I found this ad on CraigsList last night and will be going to look at it today. It is a 1964 Ford 4000 gas, and appears to be a decent machine. Ad says it only has a small power steering pump leak, but, we'll see what 'small' is. I've seen 800's and 900's listed for around the same price so I had to check it out and to my surprise, an added bonus is all the extra implements that come with it. I need a new brushhog and the early Ferguson 2-bottom plow is a good find alone. Lastly, it says NO SELECT-O-SPEED, 12 Forward and 3 Reverse. My 4000 brochure says SOS or Dual Range 8 Speed were options so is this what he means? I'd rather not deal with an SOS anyway.

Looks like a sherman combo handle to me. Thus the 12 speed and thus no live pto.
Seems a bit overpriced to me. Even with the implements. It's a nice tractor but you are up in the price range of something like a 3600 though those do have a few less ponies or even a Real 4000 (3 cyl) and not a rebadged 841 which is what that tractor was.

Saw that same ad yesterday, looks like a good deal. Wife says 2 8n's are enough for me, I told her 2 pans are enough for her. Eating out today.

Yes, but I don't see a 4 as mentioned on FORD forum, or even a 5 speed as an option with the 4000, 2000 and 3000 yes. I see a 6 speed offered on the 3000. I thought it was a bit high too that's why I looked.

Tim,I see it has the bracket for the weights on the wheels, wonder if he has the weights? With those and the extras you could figure close to $2000 in extras which brings the tractor price down, still no live PTO,but an overrunning coupler is probably already on the tractor and the combo Sherman would make it a real nice unit. The position of the clutch pedal could fool ya but with a 4 speed it has to be no live PTO.

I know that you are aware Ford made two different 2000s and two 4000s. The 4 cylinder Prior models and the 3 cylinder "Square Tin" models.
But don't get your 3000 mixed up in there. 3000s are a 3 cyl model and share Nothing with the Priors.

FOLLOWUP from yesterday---

I went and looked at it, made an offer for $2500 and he could keep all but the brush hog and Ferguson Plow. NA-DA. He countered with $4800, I said NA-DA. My last offer was at $2800 and then I walked.
