What's in your tool box?

Maybe this is old news.

Was thinking about what other N owners carry in their OEM tool box to work on things in the field? The box by the battery, not a fender mount.

When I get a chance I'll inventory mine and post the contents.

Maybe others could do the same and compare notes.

This is just stuff [u:a56c3a4ac6]that will fit in[/u:a56c3a4ac6] the OEM tool box.

I will cheat a bit, my big adjustable wrench hangs out a bit in the box.

I figure if you carry a set of tools in the tractor, you're probably not much of a mechanic! ;)

That being said...?

See tip # 50.

I also carry a gas stick and now that they are free w/ a purchase, a H-F multi-meter.

One of my 8ns came with a tool box, it is somewhere in my shop! If i installed it I might carry some clicher pins but no tools.

the only thing in mine normally are some lynch pins. worst case scenario is i'd have to walk ~ 200 yards to get tools.

Ford plow wrench
Skol can with 22 short rifle ammo. This came with the 8N when I bought it 25 years ago.

A few linch pins a pair of linesman's pliers, screwdriver and a roll of TP in a zip lock bag for emergencies.

Good evening!
My 9N has an original style tool box below the battery. I have not looked down deep in it for several years! At the top I keep a modern plier-knife-multi-tool, a rag, a cheap rain coat (for tractor shows), a wood paint stirring stick that is my fuel gauge, maybe one or two items to have handy at shows. Actually, since I use the tractor mainly for mowing the lawn, I am never far from the barn or my garage, so I never need much from the tractor's own box, just the fuel gauge stick.

My 9n has a 8n tool box on the fender. In my box is a putty knife, screwdriver, cresent wrench, homemade radiator drain wrench, one extra lynch pin. card with the oil change info.

I have an ammo can on the fender. 2 crescent wrenches, 2 channel lock pliers, slip joint pliers, small can of wd40, 3lb hammer, zip ties, extra pins, few rags, gloves and TP.

I keep the original FORD tools in my toolbox plus some other tools and parts as well. Originally there were 7 hand tools, a toolbag, and a grease gun. Two tools are essential IMHO: the 9N-17014 Plow Wrench and the 01A-17017-B Spark Plug/Cylinder Head Wrench. Many nuts and bolts are 11/16", 13/16", or 1-1/16" on the tractor and implements. By April, 1940, after s/n 12500, the toolkit was released as 9N-17004 and only included a bag, pliers, screwdriver, and the two small open end wrenches. Each new tractor came with the 9N-17014 Plow Wrench and the 01A-17017-B Spark Plug Wrench. Monkey (ADJ) Wrenches were then dealer options and by 1946 obsolete in all domestic vehicle kits. By the later 2N years, 1944, the plow wrench and sparkplug wrench were included in a parts shipping kit with each new tractor up thru the NAA Model. In addition to the original toolkit, I have a Mini-Mag flashlight; a set of used but good sparkplugs; a special 1/4" gapped plug to test spark; a 3' 12 GA Jumper wire with alligator clips; a test light; wire ties; a 7/16" Flare Nut Wrench; a pair of Channel Locks; an 8" Crescent Wrench; a PTO Sleeve adaptor; a dozen spare linch pins; a 3/4/7/8 Open End Wrench; and a shop rag. I keep a PTO Cap on when the sleeve isn't needed so they get swapped out back and forth as required.

small gauge jumper wire w/alligator clips

short large gauge jumper wire w/alligator clips (for when gen cutout, cuts out)

small cheap LED flashlight
