12v conversion alternator brackets

My 12v conversion kit has decent wiring instructions, but the instructions for the brackets really suck. It appears the entire assembly is held in place by one single bolt. '52 model, so we're on the left side. The lousy picture shows the primary bracket bolted to the top loop just behind the radiator hose that used to hold the old generator bracket. From what I can see, that is the only thing holding everything in place. I know there's lots of 12v N's on here, so I'm probably not the only one, unless I just got a crappy kit. Also, the original bolt won't even go through the slot in the bracket. Looks like a 5/16 bolt would be max for it.
Thanks, Jim

I may have figured this one out. Looks like the original "U" bracket that bolts to the engine block is still used with the kit. You just have to provide your own bolts>

Correct. They work well once assembled.
I have experienced the same issue you have with the adjusting bolt.
I put a longer bolt all the way through and used a nut on the back.
This also gave me a pretty good location to connect an additional
ground wire for the headlights on newly painted tractors.

I think the brackets vary by manufacturer. Originally the genny sat in a cradle held with a single strap. Remove the cradle and the strap leave the bracket attached to the block. The altenator bracket bolts to bracket on the block. The top bracket bolts to the little ear sticking off the water pump.

Thanks for the input everybody. Just finished the install. Had to stare at it for a while before I figured out that I had to put that block bracket back on! The rocket scientist that wrote the instructions said remove the old generator, all brackets, wiring, and anything else related to the charging system. Go figure................ Now for the wiring, carb, tune up and oil change. Then maybe I can get our driveway leveled. The gravel cost almost as much as I paid for the tractor! LOL

Yep, good description Hobo. It is #3 that I had trouble with in
the past and had to use a through bolt with a nut on the backside.
