8N Drain Plug Leaking

I changed the oil in my 52 8N, replaced filter and gasket on drain plug. The oil drips a little since I have changed the oil, which it never did before. The only difference is I used Rotella 15w40 this time instead of straight 30 weight oil. Could that have caused the leaking?

" gasket on drain plug. "

The one on the oil pan, correct?

Normally they are attached to the bung style plug
and not changed unless you change the whole plug.

Did you clean all of the mating surfaces?

As mentioned already, oil type has no bearing on leaking. The drain plug has a dimpled surface to better grip down the gasket. Original gasket was cork, many today are rubber. You must ensure both the engine block surface and the drain plug are completely free and clear of all old gasket material and debris. I always apply a coating of clean engine oil on the gasket and engine surface when reassembling. That will help prevent when tightening down the plug from any gasket pinching or tearing. The oil drain plug itself has a fine mesh screen attached. This allows the oil pump pickup inlet to fit inside and when oil is sucked up, the screen is to help prevent any floating debris from being pulled up as well. If the screen is missing, a new drain plug/screen assembly, p/n 9N-6730 should be purchased. Next, be sure you are not witnessing the weep hole drain port. It has a cotter pin hanging down to keep it opened up and a bit of oil leakage is normal. It wouldn't be a Ford Tractor without some oil leaking... ; > ) GRIN.

The gasket was made from like a thin hard cardboard gasket material. I did put oil on it before I installed it and the drain plug does have the screen attached. He gasket I bought from the local New Holland dealer. I thought the gasket would be made of rubber also because they looked like rubber on this site.
