Ford NAA front wheels shimmy

Driving fast down the road I get a terrible front end shimmy , all the way up to the steering wheel . I assume its something in the steering box . Thoughts ?

Probably not your steering box. Unless you have excessive play in the wheel.

Get the front end off the ground. Grab the tire, top and bottom and see if it moves. If it does, it's probably the wheel bearings, spindle bushings or spindles. If it doesn't move much, then check for movement all the way back to the drag links. HINT: it's probably the tie rod ends, but you need to check the entire steering system.

Just my thoughts, I'm sure the are other more expert opinions here. I would make sure you don't have too much slop in you ball joints at the ends of tie rod. Also, a little positive toe in may should help prevent shimmy. In other words, instead of tires pointing straight ahead; the front of tire should be ever slightly inward to help keep them from wondering. If there is slop in the steering box, it should be of the adjustable type so there should be a screw that can snug it up it, unless it is excessively worn.

What tires do you have on the front??? Single ribs or very over inflated 3 ribs will cause your problems. As
stated ck all the rest too.

....... Can you be more specific on the adjusting screw , is it the one one the side of the box with the lock nut ????

Yes - See photo

With wheels pointing straight ahead, remove all backlash with adjusting bolts shown above. Some backlash is normal with wheels turned left or right.

Everyone has given sound advice on checking for worn steering components from steering wheel to wheel bearings.
