motorcycle tires on N Ford

Bought 8N a few years back & it has motorcycle tires on it & has functioned fine until weather cracks resulted in failure on one. So, hey, it worked a long time & used MC tires are free, so I got more. Problem. Got on rim but when pressurized it won't fully seat at bead. It is as though the tire is some fraction of an inch too small than the 19 inch rim. Proper Ford N tire was 4 X 19 as was the removed MC tire and the "new" MC tire is 90/110 X 19. 90mm=3.54 inch and 110mm=4.33 inch. It seems that 19 inch isn't 19 inch? Experiences or ideas?

JMOR,What was the numbers on the old M/C tire, you say 4 X 19 as was the removed MC tire and the one you are putting on is the "new" MC tire 90/110 X 19. 90mm=3.54 inch and 110mm=4.33 inch. The new tires are not designed for bead lock rims are they? Maybe that is the difference.

ld MC tire was marked 4.00 X 19. Tire catalog crossed to 90/110 X 19, so I don't see bead-lock as being issue.

I put the same mc tires on my 8n (90/110x19) an they work great as turf tires.dont fit the rim as good as the ribbed ag tires. But with new tubes they seem to work fine. No more crop circles in my yard after I mow.

In this encircled area, am I looking at wheel or tire? If wheel, that is similar to my problem, but mine has tire further out against outside of rim part way around and as in your picture (I think) around the rest, so that it rotates like a clown's cart wheel.. Can't feel it in ride, but looks goofy as H.

That would be rim. The edge or lip of the mc tire and ag tire are shape different. You might need to clean and smooth the inside of the rims if they are rusty.

hanks. Will re-examine.

Actually, as i remember, the shop had that problem with mine, they really had to put the air pressure to them to get them to that point. probably 50 lps or better . Kinda risky I thought. but now they are in place I have about 30 lps.

What are you using for bead lube? Dish soap is not slick enough. Get yourself some NAPA tire bead lube, far
slicker than soap. I have mounted dozens of those darn tires. They are always trouble.

The MC tires that had been o it for over 10 years appeared to fit just like normal tractor tires, but new one didn't. Only reason that I brought the subject here.

I put motorcycle tires on my 8N several years ago and they were very difficult to get seated. I soaped them down good and ran the pressure up, it took a while but I finally got them on.

No Gary, it is not safe. I am a bad example as I like living on the edge. I hope kids don't see this and try it at home.

Not sure just what I am doing as this is my first post on here. I think you will find that the first number on the tire is width, the second is height of tire from rim to tread, and the 19 is rim size. Hope this helps. I also ride a Goldwing.
