was looking through i barn here in gowen mi to buy a 1948 willy's jeep, came across a ford 9n serial number N1704, surface rust but sheet metal looked really good, back rubber no good, he said he'd sell it to me for 1800.00 and would also sell me a complete set of metal wheels to go with it for 600.00, you would have to want it just for the low serial# that's alot of money, hard to pass up that serial number that low but like i said wife would kill me if i brought home another ford.

That is a lot of money for an N, but if it were all original it might
be worth it to a collector. I suppose it is currently a non-runner.

Sure, he would sell it to you, but you have to buy it. I think that the number would have to be a few hundred Lowe for it to have real dollar value.

Are you the guy in Gowen with all the Ford Tractor generators for sale? I?d need a lot more info to verify it as an early 9N. The serial number should have a "9N" prefix with the STAR SYMBOL before and after, like this: *9N-XXXX* hand stamped on the boss cast on the block just behind the oil filter housing. Some other important early 9N identifiers are, smooth rear axle hubs, double-ribbed fenders, 4-spoke steering wheel, aluminum/horizontal bar grille, snap-in battery cover, fuel tank fill spout central on tank, large/non-pressurized radiator, chrome STANT rad cap, small/2-wire/2-brush generator with square voltage regulator, key switch on RH Dash panel, Ignition ON lamp LH dash, starter switch button LH dash panel, hydraulic oil dipstick on top of shifter cover, chromed throttle lever, chromed shifter lever -first 4", 32" rear rims & tires, muffler shield, 20/20 AMMETER, and more. Running boards were never OEM on 9Ns and 2Ns. Even if it is that low s/n and had half of these original parts, and the block wasn't cracked, it's well worth the investment, IMHO.

not running lawson but pretty straight, i have a video of it if you want me to text it to ya, it was dark, it had the old one rib
balloon tires in front with the one rib down the middle and they were still holding air

this guy also said he had a 2 speed rear end on one of his old 8n, never heard of that, he has ford parts laying all around his property

Yes, ad was on Craigs List a few months ago but when I went to look at them they were all for late 8Ns and after. Those pictures of early 9Ns are not mine. My early 9N is in the barn half in pieces being restored. Royse sent me a LINK to a video, titled '9N', I assume this was yours? No matter, I can't see anything in it to ID it. I can only see a single rib 4 x 19 front tire. Image is too small and in a limited window. You'd be better off taking a ton of good, close-up digital pictures and post. Get images of the generator, VR and/or cutout, radiator, seat, rear end, fenders, hood, carb, exhaust, grille, dash, shifter cover, steering box and everything else.
