Hydraulic, lift

I'm replacing the lift piston with the newer style with O ring and leather seals. Looking at the cylinder I find no scoring and very clean, should I deglaze the walls or just leave as is?. Second question, The lift shaft bushings are worn and must be replaced, but what is the best way to remove the arms to remove the shaft?. The arms are frozen to the shaft. Thanks in advance.

What model tractor -9N/2N or 8N? The 8N hydraulic system is different, the cylinder is different, and the linkage is different. IMHO, you have the top cover off already, and the new NAA piston and leather backup washer/wiper; there's only the rubber O-RING and leather wiper with the NAA piston, no other 'seals' used. I'd invest in a new cylinder now as well. You are not going to make the old cylinder any better by trying hone it out, believe me. the bore could be out-of-round and/or tapered even if you don't see any witness marks of scouring. You need a dial bore gage to inspect for sure. Honing or reboring only results in enlarging the cylinder bore and that and the cylinder diameter are critically designed to function at nominal precisely toleranced dimensions. You don't want to have to pull the cover again if you reuse old cylinder and find out it leaks. Be sure to get the complete gasket and install them all where they are supposed to go. The cylinder is fastened on to the top cover with four square head bolts -under the seat and you do not loosen those until you get the cover off and on your workbench. The 9N/2N system uses a wishbone bracket that MUST be pulled away before the cover is removed.

Dynamic o-ring seals want a smooth (10u) surface finish. Save the "deglazing" for engine cylinder walls.

last year I redid one of my 8ns. I went to the new style and replaced the cylinder also. I was very disappointed in the surface finish in the bore. Kinda of made wish I had ordered new rings for old piston. Time will tell how long the o ring lasts.
