Float valve?

Rebuillt carb and it worked (almost) for a little bit. At first I had to have the choke on but even then it would not stay running. I pulled it apart to check it out and discovered the bowl is not filling up. I dissassembled the carb on the tractor and checked fuel flow and apparently the float valve works. I filled the bowl up with gas and it ran for a bit but then quit. I will probably fine the bowl empty again. Is there some kind of air flow problem that woyuld keep the bowl form filling up? Help me mister wizard!

Is float free to move, or is it possibly bent and binding against the walls of the float chamber so it can't drop, open the needle inlet valve, and allow gas into the carburetor?

With the carb removed and empty of gas, can you hear the float moving as you invert, and then upright the carb?

there are several potential causes of fuel flow problems that are outside of the carb. there is a screen and a tiny opening for the reserve pickup on the top of the sediment bowl assembly inside the gas tank. then there's a screen inside the glass bowl, at the top where it mates to the metal. lastly, there's a screen on the elbow which attaches the fuel line to the carb. are all of these screens clean?

another potential issue is a plugged gas tank vent. in this case, the flow of gas builds up a vacuum in the tank which eventually stops further fuel flow. the easy test is to run with the gas cap on but not turned to tighten it down, and see if the problem goes away.

Just had a similar prob with my 960. No gas to the bowl, replaced with new vitron needle and seat with same results within a day or two. Today I visited the local carb shop and picked up some brass seats with all metal needles, no vitron. Back on the trac tomorrow and I know it will do fine. Vitron bad, ethanol bad and the two together are bad-bad!

Is the float adjusted correctly? 9/32" from the gasket surface to the lower edge of the float, with the bowl center held upside down. What caused you to take the carburetor apart in the first place?

Also The passage in the fuel bowl body may be clogged on the reserve passage. If so you need to do your troubleshooting and repairs on carb. with 1/2 tank of
gas.

Pull the drain plug on the carb and see if you have flow. If not, it's not the carb. Work your way back to the fuel tank to see where issue is located.
