Dirty Carb?

I have a 8N that suddenly is running crappy.it will spitter and sputter then run like it should, then go back to the sputtering.
Take it off and blow it out? Or is it possibly the governor.

People that respond to this are going to want to know if your 8N is a side mount or front mount distributor and whether it has been converted
to 12 volts. Other causes could be a intermittent short in the distributor, poor gas flow because of clogged fuel filters, worn bushing or
weights in the distributor, Worn or frayed spark plug wires, corrosion in the key switch.

It's not the governor.

Could be carburetion or ignition.

ALWAYS verify that the ignition is spot on before looking to carburetion.

Wait until engine is cold, then perform a fuel flow test on the carb and sediment bulb. If carb fails the fuel flow even after cleaning the three in-line screens, then it's time to remove it, not before, and do a complete rebuild, not just 'take it off and blow it out'. You don't ever want to blow compressed air into a carb as you could damage the float. Once the carb is on your bench and dismantled, then you will soak and clean in carb cleaner or better yet, lacquer thinner, and now can use compressed air on all the passages. leave the governor alone, probably OK and not the root cause. You'd notice the governor kick in when the load increases like going up a slope or when mowing in thick cover. Root cause problem solving not guessing is the key to any issue. I rebuild carbs if you can't and need it done...email is open...

yep , what the others said about checking fuel and for other conditions first. I have a similar issue and I know exactly what is causing my issue. My fuel line/ fuel tank has crud and rust clogging it up. I need to drain and flush the fuel tank and lines. Now my carb maybe dirty as well but I will fix the clogged fuel lines first.
