Ford 600 exhaust change

Hi I am putting a new vertical exhaust on my 600 and the vertical pipe that goes off the muffler has a flat iron piece that came with it with a hole on each end but the pipe only came with one bolt in the flat piece. Any ideas where this goes or what it is/does? Its less than 1/8 thick

Also does anyone know any tricks to getting the exhaust elbow into the muffler

Sounds like you do not have the original cast elbow for a vertical exhaust that also supports the stack. The flat stock you mention is a bend-to-fit support bracket. One hole is for the muffler clamp and the other attaches to the head after removing the original Y-shaped exhaust support bracket.

Tailpipe expander will help with muffler fitment. You local APS may have a loaner...
