8N Foot Throttle

Since installing the foot throttle on my 8N, yesterday was the first time I used it. I used it to mow with the rotary mower. I had weeds that were kind of patchy. Some of the patches were a little over thigh high.

It was really nice having that foot throttle so I could vary my speed and also raise or lower the mower when I wanted to. I highly recommend the foot throttle for the 8N. It worked perfectly.

I have an original Dowden on one of my 8Ns. The tractor has a Woods belly mower, and the Dowden really helps in grass/weeds of varying height and density.

I added a Dowden to my '52 8N that has a Wagner loader mounted on it. It has been on there for at least
5 years and even yet, I forget that it is there. Too many years/hours without one.

Well, at least you remember where you parked the tractor.

foot throttle is a natural thang,,, damm every thing you own has one cept your tractor... I have a foot feed on my 3000 gasser would not be with out it... I have had on on my bass boat since 1990 the only problem is it does not have a brake pedal

(quoted from post at 19:29:09 06/01/18) Once one has had a foot throttle one will never again be without one.

I recently purchased an MF202 and it has a foot throttle. After driving that, I immediately knew that my 8N needed one.

Another thumbs up for a foot throttle!
I have one on my 3000 and use it a lot.
It gives me an extra 150 or so rpms than the
hand throttle too. Great for when you're hot
and thirsty after mowing for a few hours and
you know there's a cold one in the fridge.

You have touched on a partial issue with the foot throttle. If you are pulling a draft implement and
need a bit of brake application to balance traction, taking your foot off of the throttle can lose
forward momenton and possibly stall the engine. Also. if using the PTO, implement rpm is lost with
engine rpm. I like keeping my engine rpm constant. Just my 65 years of throttle handle habit talking.
LOL ps I do have a Dowden on my '52 8N with the Wagner loader.

I usually have my hand throttle set at a pretty good rpm, using the hand throttle for a power booster. No danger of stalling out the tractor when pulling a box blade full of dirt. Having a hand throttle and a foot throttle, I'm sure people can figure out the best ways for them to use them.

My MF202 also has a hand throttle as well as the foot throttle.

For those not in the know...You can leave your hand throttle all the way off and just use the foot throttle. On the other hand, you can set the hand throttle at any RPM you want to maintain and the foot throttle will just raise your RPM from that position to anything above or full RPM if you desire it.

In the first sentence above it should have read "I usually have my hand throttle set at a pretty good rpm, using the [color=red:61738e6faa]FOOT[/color:61738e6faa] throttle for a power booster".

Yeah, I wonder, at what point does it become permanent?

I kind of wish they would at least tell us why it's disabled. It must be to their advantage in some way, I just can't think of how.

It can't be much of an advantage when we have to make another post to correct a mistake we might have made.

The edit feature was "temporarily disabled" because it was causing a myriad of lost/orphaned posts. My guess is they could never fix those problems and the feature will never be re-enabled. I participate in other forums that allow it and it works as it should. Speaks volumes to me.

My guess is that it was only in the classic view. I don't know any other forums that have that. I sure don't use it.

modern view is driven by phpBB. it's software i am very familiar with. the edit button we (those of us on modern view) see is from phpBB. in other environments, it not only works well, it's also configurable.

i'd be surprised to learn that the issue is anything other than the frankenstein board setup in use here.

i have never been a fan of what is called classic view, here or anywhere else - but i also can't remember ever being on a forum that tried to fuse both together, aside from this one.
