Cleaning the very dirty starter. All cleaned outside & Bendix but want to pull amateur for more cleaning. Can't find Info. on how to cage the brushes. Any ideas ?

I'm not taking it to the repair shop.

Typically, you pull the brushes up so they protrude above the holder, then slide the pressure spring past the side or edge of the brush to hold them out of the way for assembly, then use a skinny screwdriver or a hook to pop the spring back on top of the brush.
