OT, Algae in my diesel fuel tractor tank

Having a problem with a Case 1490 tractor where I suspect there is algae contamination in the tanks. I have found brown sludge gooey deposits on the fuel filters as well as some water in the secondary filter. I have drained off 8 gallons from the bottom of the tanks and did not find much water but the fuel looks cloudy and contaminated. I also got some of what I believe to be bits of brownish algea. I just changed the fuel pump and it had about 1/8 brown deposits on the bottom also. Some quick research reveals this to be a common problem with diesel fuels. Very common in the Marine and trucking industries. I have never heard of these little devils. It seems that when a machine sits condensation in the tank creates water build up in the tank. The water settles to the bottom and the Algea thrives between the fuel and water line. I fear they have already infested and ruined my injector pump as I have only got the machine restarted twice in two days, runs strong but dies in about 5 minutes probably gunking up the pump with these little slimeball creatures of the underworld. I'm sure I'm looking at a rebuild or new injector pump close to $1000. Dropping the tanks and having them cleaned along with a new injector pump is getting close to the price of the tractor and I don't want to ruin another injector pump. Has anyone had any luck with the commercial biocides for killing these devils or other ideas on how to proceed to clean up my fuel delivery system? My 8n has never grown Algea in the tank, who would have known such creatures could live between fuel and water, the curse of diesel for sure!

thanks for posting the link Ultradog, nice of a dog to help out a rat. The Case Board is not as active as this one. Tractor talk is one I will have to start frequenting!

Tractor talk is a great board and gets twice the traffic this one does.
It's where all the colors meet.
If you don't visit that board regularly you miss out on much of what Yesterday's Tractors is really all about.
Here's an answer I gave to a guy who asked what were the best tractor forums on the internet.
I got a lot of replies - all of them agreeing with me.

"It depends on what you're trying to find.
For pre 80s tractors this is probably the best site on the whole internet.
Got newer stuff?
Modern ones with HST and Tier 4 emissions?
This probably isn't the place.
But if you need info on toe nail fungus, maple syrup, two row planters, valve adjustment on a Buda, Rockwell hardness of Allis transmission gears, submarines, grading lumber, growing figs and raising pigs, the best work boot, the worst raincoat, fertilizer, do you still have all your fingers and toes, going back to the gold standard, 8 track stereos, Rhode Island Red chickens, well pumps, dealing with stubborn wives, denture adhesive, hydraulics, etymology and entomology, big ears, flat feet, good scotch, lazy horses, wolverines, shop heaters and pretty women to go along with the questions about old iron then this is the best place for sure."

Just drain your tanks, doctor it up real good with a tank cleaner, biocide and fuel treatment. I use Power Service Clear-Diesel, ValvTect BioGuard and Lucas Injector Cleaner respectively. Then fill it back up with clean fuel and run it for a while to get the goods through the system and you'll be good to go.

If you have any kind of fuel storage you will want to give it the same treatment.
