NAA engine dismantle

Making headway on this. Just couldn't believe how much hard pulling it took to pull out the Rocker Assy. feed tube. finally got it out.

Got the oil pan off yesterday. The drain plug screen had separated and I found what I think are remnants of what has to be a governor.

Inside the housing showed wear and some minor damage. The governor that came out doesn't look like the MPC one. Anyone care to weigh in ?

The block where the water pump mounts looks like it also had some work done. Haven't got pistons out yet, but there aren't any oversize stamps on them.

The inside of the governor housing & Timing gear housing are nearly spotless. No residue, and the two oil pan to timing gear housing bolts had silicone on them. Apparently had been off before ?

And the governor shown in the picture is NOT and orginal. I have been unable to find the manufacture of it, beings I have one also , laying on the shelf in pieces.

The original gov. for your NAA had big (maybe 5/8 diameter) balls working on a cone shape washer. It has a thrust bearing which had small steel balls that look like what you had in your oil pan. In later years and models Ford used roller weights that ran on an incline plane instead of balls. You can use the newer OEM type as long as you change the governor spring on your throttle linkage to match the newer type governor. The pic of your gov. is different from any I have seen used on Fords. Your gov. should work as long as your spring is correct.

Yes, she is 65, but so is my wife. At least she doesn't have a cracked block....yet! She could use an upgraded governor though.

Wayne. I'm not sure what your referring to. Parts and the entire original type governor are available.

The one I have I could not find after an hour of searching the web. It seems a lot of folks upgrade to the newer type due to failure of the original, but the new type is expensive. I don't even know if mine works as I only ran it a little bit after I bought it, then dismantled it.

The original NAA governor had 6 5/8s balls and to me, was far better then the roller on a ramp style that Ford replaced it with. The six balls are the only parts available for the original governor, as far as I know. The one I have ,like the one pictured was wore out and totally none functional.
