1954 NAA Vicker Vane Pump Rebuild

Guys, My 3 point works great for about 1/2 hour. once the tractor gets hot it will only lift about 100 pounds. any idea of whats wrong with the pump and which rebuild kit will fix it? it's the pump that has the fast/slow adjustment on the end of it if that helps. it is wound in the whole way to the fast position. moving it to the slow position only makes the problem worse.

Other than the vane parts, the seals and o-rings are standard parts. Very easy rebuild. There is a diagram on the web that has all the part numbers.

Mine had worn seals and worked much better with a new set. It was under $20.

The vane pumps never worked that great, that is why they went to piston.

so your thinking it's just a few of the o rings that are worn thats causing it not to work once the fluid gets hot?

I say that you re too quick to assume pump. What about leak sources such as the ram?

Far more more likely vane, rotor, and ring wear. That is where pressure is made and bypass occurs when the parts begin to wear. Up until just recently those parts where unobtanium but aftermarket service parts are now on the market. You need to measure your old parts to see if the pump has 5/8 or 3/4 inch wide components. Here is a link to the 5/8 kit on YT - $380.

i didnt know you were still around. dont you sell a kit that will replace it with a new style pump? if i recall correctly, you do.

To quote Mr Twain "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated". I did break my ankle mid February but it was not fatal ;-)

I do make and sell a kit to replace the vane or piston pump with a modern gear pump:

It is a very popular item and there is now a lengthening waiting list.

There are a couple seals in mine and it was leaking out into the gear drive.

It helped quite a bit with loss of prime/air issues.

The vanes do get old, and my pump is weak when hot.

I have a TOH kit for when mine finally dies.

it holds pressure overnight. it will even lift my 650LB plow. it just loses all strength when the fluid gets hot. works fine for about 15 minutes or so while its cold though.
