A few days ago L.Fure started a discussion about using sway bars with a dirt scoop. I meant to write that I did not use them with a dirt scoop. Either I was distracted or the auto correct feature on my mobile device got me. Anyway, sorry for the confusion.

(quoted from post at 13:53:36 04/29/18) A few days ago L.Fure started a discussion about using sway bars with a dirt scoop. I meant to write that I did not use them with a dirt scoop. Either I was distracted or the auto correct feature on my mobile device got me. Anyway, sorry for the confusion.

I wanted to use the anti-sway bars to hold the scoop in place
horizontally. Without the bars the scoop would go off my in tended target when I would try to back into it. In other words, I kept missing the pile of gravel I intended to move. Not missing it completely, but enough to where it was taking too long to complete the task. Trying to get both bars on ended up being a waste of my time. I still have plans to correct where the pins are placed under the axel, so I don't have to go through another session of wasting my time. I had intended to put it right yesterday, but the weather had cooled off enough that I didn't want to lay on the ground on my back while doing so. My joints get stiff enough as it is without inviting trouble. :(

I found using Stabilizer Bars with a rear scoop to be very effective, especially when pushing backwards into a dirt pile. They will keep the scoop rigid and now allow it to kick off to one side once resistance is met. Ditto for using a back blade. Try pushing snow without them backwards and see how the blade will kick off to the side and not do a very good job. Even with the earlier Dearborn Rear Scoop which only operates in the forward direction, I found them effective as well. FWIW, make sure you know the difference between Stabilizer Bars, sometimes called sway bars, or anti-sway bars, and the STAY BARS. They are two different animals with two different purposes altogether.
