(quoted from post at 02:21:05 04/21/18) But MAN, that [b:fe792e95db]price![/b:fe792e95db]

And 40 bids on it when I looked.
Yes, 40 bids, but only 7 bidders. Two guys in a bidding war by the looks. The others stopped below $200 by the looks.

It's a shame that this tractor is being parted out to help improve someone's basket case. According to the description it would have been a good tractor for someone to restore.

Sellers description of the tractor below.

“I bought this tractor at an Estate auction and it was in very nice original condition The Grandson of the old man that owned it stated his grandfather purchased this 8N new in 1949 and he used it very little as he only had A 5 acre estate. This tractor sat in the tool shed for over 50 years without being used. All items are being sold as good usable condition unless stated otherwise in the listing or listing description. Thanks for looking in and good luck bidding!!!”

This guy has been parting out tractors for years. The description always states that "this tractor was in perfect running condition"!

This has been a bone of contention on this
board for a long time.
At one time there was a lot of arguing over
it though not so much of late.
Some folks think we should save every last
one of these tractors - whatever the cost.
Others ask; "Where are you going to find the
parts to save them all - except used, as
many of the major components are no longer
made?"
Some folks are emotionally attached to these
tractors. To others they're just a
commodity, like grain or oil or pork
bellies. Something to make a buck off of.
Who is right?
All of us need used parts on occasion.
Including those who say we should save them
all.
So what are we going to do?
I tend to fall on the side of those who part
them out. One tractor can save many.
And like the oft repeated saying; "It's your
tractor, paint it any color you like."
Or, it's your tractor, restore it to YOUR
standards and not someone else's.
Or even, It's your tractor, part it out if
you like.
In another generation or two these tractors
will likely all be gone anyway. Except for a
few museum pieces.
Meanwhile, a lot of folks can make a living
with them, through parts.
And make a lot of folks happy to get those
parts - the nicer the better.
Ultimately, I think Henry Ford would
approve.
Henry did have a life long goal of helping
farmers by reducing some of the hard work
and drudgery of farming through better
technology. But he was also a pragmatist and
built these tractors to make a buck, just
like the guys who part them are doing.
I'm not trying to start an argument with
anybody here.
Just kinda thinking out loud about both
sides of it all...

My idea is that if anyone was looking for a Ford 8N to restore, the one in the add would have made a perfect one to start with. It most likely will take the least amount of work/parts to make it a nice restoration. But of course it isn't my tractor to make the decision on it's fate. That's the owners right to decide what they want to do with it.

Just like in the old car/truck hobby. Some must "die" so others can "live". His tractor, he can do as he pleases. Getting that much for the hood shows that he is likely making money on the part out.
