OT - Bought a little bigger tractor hauler

Thought some of you Ford guys might like to see pictures of them.

The F150 is ten years old now, with 151,000 basically trouble free miles.
Less than $1000 in repairs outside of maintenance in that time.
Looks pretty good too, considering Michigan's salted roads.

The F250 has all the trailer towing goodies the F150 lacked.
I opted for the gas engine instead of the diesel for several reasons.
One of which was letting the diesel idle to cool down inside the shop.
Haven't quite got 300 miles on it yet, but so far I'm loviN' it.

Very nice! We've always had Ford trucks on the farm. In the 90s, my Dad downsized to the Ranger series - MN built and all - and they've treated us really well. But their lack of hauling capacity was starting to be a draw back. A year ago this past September I bought a '97 F250 with the 7.3l. Another great truck (though the interior durability is a little lacking.).

Great looking truck, love the color. I've wanted a 250 for a good long while even though I'm a Dodge owner now (had an F150 and a GMC Sierra back in the day). Today I met a fellow at the recycling center with a Ram 3500. It was a good looking truck also. I asked him how he liked it and he said he hated it and wouldn't have it except that his wife had horses and that was the truck they needed to haul them. He said he would much rather have one like mine (1500 4x4).... grin.

Good economy, buy vehicles. Me too. In January I bought a Chevy 1500 Dbl cab, 5.3, gas. Added Rhino
liner, tri-fold tunneau cover, running boards and supplemental air bag suspension. Ordering towing
mirrors. 6 and 1/2 camper to go on for summer and 24' box trailer behind going to shows.
Two weeks ago I got a whale of a deal on a Chevy Spark, $5500 off sticker. We took it on a 150 mile trip
and got 46+ mpg. Plan is to drive Spark for local commutes and keep truck set up for summer with camper
and trailer. Sell the Spark in the fall and see how close I can recover purchase price.
I think the truck is strong enough for my needs and the Spark is a fun putz around. My story and I'm
sticking to it.

Now you just need a bigger trailer, and
more tractors so the truck and trailer get
used!

I "built" myself a hauler out of a cheap
1500 made to 2500 with 300,000 miles. I
blew a differential so it's got a little
one in it right now, but other then that
I've been very happy with the setup.

Some locking axles make it fun when it's
not pulling too, ;)

Thanks Hobo, yes, its a 6.2. Not nearly the torque of the diesel,
but it'll get out of its own way quite a bit better than the 4.6 in
the F150 does. And with only one refill so far, gas mileage is
about the same empty as it was with the F150 as pictured.

Hauling 8600 lbs behind that F150 for 8 and a half hours a few
weeks ago influenced my decision. Gas mileage was under 10 MPG.
The F150 handled it fine with proper brakes on the trailer, etc.
I was under the truck's rated capacity, believe it or not.
But I I'm pretty sure I'll feel a lot safer this way.

I have not towed anything with the F250 yet.
Book says I shouldn't until after 1000 miles.
Yes, I read all 800+ pages of the owner's manual.

Looks like you've been doing some mudding Andy.
My blue truck looked like that yesterday. My nephew got his '07
F150 stuck in some red clay mud and I took it to pull him out.
Mission accomplished, but they were both muddy like that!

That's a nice truck and you will feel safer pulling a trailer. I just bought a Ford F 450 Super Duty 7.5 to replace the GMC K1500 to pull
my 24 FT. deckoverand tractors.

Nice ride Royse. That's a great looking truck. I just upgraded too, but only to 5000 lb towing capacity.

I'm being told that there will be a well cared for blue F150 for sale soon. :(
I offered to build a new garage for her car, but that didn't fly well either.
Probably because I wasn't going to heat that garage. ;)

Thanks Jerry. I sure could have used your skills this weekend.
I had planned to put in a taller garage door so the 3000 with the
cab would fit but as it turned out, the new truck wouldn't fit either.
So, since we had nice weather this weekend, I took out the 7 footer
and installed a new 8 footer. Now the new truck will fit too.
