Live Hydraulics on Ford 9N

[size=18:63daea86a2][/size:63daea86a2]Does anyone know if one can take the static hydraulics on a 9N and convert it to a Live Hydraulic system? I'd like to be able to better control the height of my BrushHog and/or Blade.

Live hydraulics won't do the job you are
wanting. You need position control which the
8Ns had but the 9/2 Ns did not have.
Most guys use limiter chains for that purpose.

To answer your question - yes, you can use an external pump to get live hydraulics.

But adding live hydraulics is not going to give you what you are looking for. What you are looking for is position control and Zane Sherman makes and sells a simple and much less expensive gizmo for that:

The Zane Thang

I suggest you use the email address on that page to contact Zane. The link to his website is no longer good.

I got with TOH and bought his pump/filter/remote
quick coupler kit.
He helped with the check valve before the test port
connection.
He helped with the open center valve that was fed
directly from the new live hyd pump that was belt
driven from a special front pulley adapter.
The output of the open center valve to control my
top link feeds the check valve to the test port.
Finally, the dump-to-tank port of the open center
valve goes to the right side inspection cover
connector.
Man... Quite a bit of work, but WELL worth it.
I could not do 90% of the stuff I do without it!

And yes I have Zane's position control.
BTW, the filter is suction type from the trans belly up
to the filter an int the live hyd pump.
You may not need live hyd per say but just wanted
to share in case you have an interest of not having
to loose hyds when you apply the clutch.
Regards,
Greg

You can go with limiter chains, a Zane thing. This is the method I use on my 9n/2n's. By using your toplink to create pressure resistant so your draft kicks in and keeps the implement where you want it. As
long as you hydraulics are in good shape and draft works properly.

(quoted from post at 00:50:07 03/21/18) Zane, did you mean 95 more or 95 for the pump itself?

The Zane Thang position control for Ford/Ferguson tractors does not use a pump - it is a simple mechanical linkage.

You still seem to be confusing live hydraulics and position control functionality. Live hydraulics is a separate issue altogether, will cost you 4X the price of The Zane Thang position control, AND you still need to add the Zane Thang if you want position control.

If you do decide you want to upgrade your tractor to live hydraulics here is one way to do it:

4th recomendation for Zane. Just put one on my 45 2N. Not only does it work, but it's very easy to install (15 minutes if your handy) and pretty cool to see the dang thing work. In addition, Zane answers the phone when you call the number on the invoice. So you get 60+ years of experience from a fella that is willing to help. So save up your questions ! I paid $95 for the device. No pump involved, just a linkage between your lift arms and the position control lever.

I showed a guy my Zane Thang yesterday and gave him your
contact information. He wanted to buy mine. It's not for sale.
As long as I have a 9N/2N or Fergy TE/TEA/TO 20/30, I'll have
a Zane Thang. You should be getting a call/email from him soon.

Thanks Hokie. Appears two versions, one driven off direct crank link and one driven off belt. Just guessing, how much for all the parts for the direct crank version...all in? Do you supply all the parts, or instructions for putting it together?

Price for a complete, ready to bolt on, live hydraulics conversion is $425. That gets you a 2.5 GPM pump and a live hydraulics circuit to the 3pt - nothing else. The other goodies shown are options. If you want to talk specifics contact me by email or give my cell a call (seven days/week during normal business hours EDT).
