'51 8N for 1k - non/running - should I do the deal

Ok - was offered a non running 8N for 1k - only issue is it presently does not start. Per the sellers family, it likely is just a dead battery - they know little more than it was a family members who has passed and no one wants it - so looking to unload quickly.

Overall, looks to be in nice shape - and if it's truly just a battery, its probably a steal. But not being able to hear the thing run still scares me.

I've seen worse condition running examples offered for 1600-2k, and the fact its a later 8N makes them easier to work on..but is it worth the risk ? Got a day to decide if I want it - if not, they have another interested party...Thoughts? Worst case, whats a fair price running and as it sits now?

Big no no..... But carry a battery
with you. But hold em to the
price! Or offer less if it won't
crank. Full price if it will. If
tires are good maybe a deal.

take a chance and offer 500 for non running. if you take a battery and it starts then you might be stuck at 1000. if it is a side mount it is worth a bit more. at least it would be to me,

Around here you can get an 8n that's running for $800/$1000 some even with shermans.
That said showing up with and trailer and cash in hand will always help with nego.
BTW I don't work on a tractor until I have a bill of sale in my hand. Been screwed before.

Ok, thanks

Not negotiating on price - so I?ll probably just pass and let the next
buyer take their chances - tell em if it falls through give me a call.

Thought of taking a battery out and testing - but figured I better not,
just as likely to wind up driving up their ask if I demonstrated it ran.

Thanks for replies

If they drive up the price due to "YOUR" skill and effort charge them a couple of hundred for your time. They could have just as well done the same work to get it running, but they chose not to.

People give those things to me to haul off. Look at the # of does not run posts on this site compared to
other sites. You can spend your thousand and get anything far better than a n ford.

A couple of questions for you:
Do you have other tractors? Had them before?
What are your plans for it if you get it
running? Got a need for a tractor?
Been thinking you need one - looking - and this
one came up?

tom - since u suggest looking at "any other site," i'd suggest to u that if u played this game on any other site, you'd have been banned for trolling ages ago.
