Hey Folks
I need a new distributor for our 9N.
Where can I get a good one with out getting taken.
I see them here, amozon, ebay and other suppliers.
Who do you all suggest.
The rear bushing is worn pretty bad and the fan belt
wore a hole in the side. So no sense trying to continue
with this one.
Thanks for any help.

Might check with nnalert's for a rebuilt original oem distributor.. Shoot them an email and ask what your options are..

Buying one from most online sources will get you a foreign made one that is "almost" right.. Believe me, I tried it with a governor and it never worked..
The advice repeated by many old timers here, rebuild or buy a rebuilt original part, is worth listening to in this case..

I?ve been working on old cars, trucks & tractors now for over 50 years. Whenever possible, I get OEM component parts rebuilt or rebuild them myself. Given the high probability that any new component part purchased for an N tractor is made somewhere overseas w/o adequate quality control, chances are very good that you will be disappointed.

These guys should be able to help you w/ used parts:

6-volt or 12-volt setup? I concur with the others here -avoid any 'new' product sold today -usually junk. These N's were engineered so the average farmer could service them as needed, often in the field if necessary. Parts such as the distributor, carburetor, water pump, governor, generator, starter, and hydraulic pump to name a few, were meant to be rebuilt. If you desire, send me your old distributor and I will replace it for you with an original rebuilt unit. Price negotiable. DO NOT THROW IT AWAY. Parts can be salvaged from old one. I'd determine the root cause of why your fan belt wore a hole in the old one too -that doesn't sound right. You have something else not right and I'd resolve that problem before using a new unit. Do you have the correct generator belt tensioning bracket?

It's been converted to 12 volt by p/o.
We bought it in December and the weather is finally
allowing us to work on it.
I've got to check the alternator brackets alignment.
I might take you up on your offer.
I'll email you later.

Had the very problem you are describing with a retrofit base bracket. The alternator base bracket is holding the alternator to high. You may get away with a longer belt or by lowering the base mounting hole by cutting it apart and re-welding 90 degrees from it's original back to back position. We opted to re-weld the bracket.

I needed a distributor for my 2N project, it wasn't there when I got the tractor. I found one on ebay, re-bushed it and put in a new plate, got those parts from nnalert's. It's working great.
