My question refers to figure F044 in the Ford I&T Shop manual on page 52, along with this quote from a thread dealing with a no spark issue. Bolded text is my interest.

6. A grounding issue inside the distributor: Incorrect positioning of the spring clip on the plate causing the pigtail to ground. (the open part of the clip goes between 7 & 9 o'clock on the plate. That puts the straight part of the clip opposite of the timing screw at 3 o'clock) [b:7b6dd2b578]or the condenser wire is grounding to the plate or side of the distributor.[/b:7b6dd2b578]
So taking that bolded text part of the statement then looking at the Fig. F044 in the I&T manual .. At the top where the condenser is wired to the distributor is the thick tang that is visible , is that an insulator of some sort? or is that just the metal flange coming off the dist. plate. Should the condenser lead NOT touch that metal tang? Which is attached to the dist. plate?
Would seem to me it would ground to the plate if touching that metal tang.. The Tang does have some kind of metal insert that I might think is a non conducting metal .. it kind of wiggles .. might intermittently cause a ground ?? Am I mistaken? or am I missing something else... does it need nylon washers on both sides of the tang to prevent contact?
I'm just wanting to be sure I understand what is going on in here... input appreciated..
