8N hesitating under load

PA 8N

New User
Hi all Im new here. Im a proud owner of a Ford 8N. Its a front mount distributor. Converted it to 12v electronic ignition new plugs wire rotor cap and carb. Starts right up even in very cold temps. It idles but you can hear a continues skip. Until its warm it will not move without hesitating or stalling. Once warmed up it will run but with a little hesitation. When the PTO is engaged to operate the bucket or backhoe it really bogs down or will stall out. If the throttle is increased significantly it will work but its reved up way to much to be effective. When I put the electronic ignition in the magnet did not fit. I had to do some filing on the inside where it slips onto the distributor shaft. I called the manufacture and they said that shouldnt matter. So here I am with this piece of history and can not use it effectively. Thoughts. Thanks in advance

Hi PA, I'm also new here. The first thing to re-check is the firing order. 1-2-4-3 front to back. If that's correct, then I don't know. There's no point gap to check and I'm not into 12 volt conversions. Let's see what the others have to say.

Richen the carburetor main mixture by turning 1/8 turn out. It is the bigger adjustment toward the front of the tractor.

Did you check the bushings & advance weights when you installed the EI? EI will compensate for some slop in the distributor, but it won't,fix significant bushing or advance weight wear.
