Question about an over riding clutch and seat cover.

I've seen different sizes of over riding PTO clutches on eBay.... 1-3/8 and 1-1/8 ... What's the standard size for an 8n?
Also my father has a nice Ferguson tractor, years Ago he bought a really nice and comfy leather black and white seat cover and go figure, he has no idea where he got it...so where is the best place to get a nice padded, durable, seat cover for my 8n?
Thanks all!

Ns originally came with 1 1/8" ptos.
Then as tractors kept getting bigger and
horsepower increased they had to increase rhe
size of pto shafts to keep from shearing them
off. So the size increased to 1 3/8" - and 1
1/8 kinda got left behind. Most modern
implements will be 1 3/8".
It is not an over riding clutch.
It is an over running clutch
One might have over riding concerns about over
running clutches tho.

You could have either. Originally an 8N was 1-1/8. The industry standard became 1-3/8. Various adaptors and extensions were
created to make the use of the larger splined tools. Your tactor could have a 1-3/8 pto spline if a previous owner replaced the
pto shaft with an aftermarket. Not a quality problem, in my experience, just makes things a little confusing sometimes expecially
for new owners of older machines.
As for seat covers, there a numerous suppliers out there. The right money might buy one in mink! LOL

Ok, I'm running a 1997 Woods finish mower with it, so it is 1-3/8 then? Does that mean when I decide to buy an old post hole digger for my 3 point, that it will need a 1-1/8 clutch then?
I'm fairly new to the "N" style tractors....

Wait a second, I've re read the replies a couple of times, so my tractor probably has a 1-1/8 spline shaft, my clutch should be the same then? Or does it need to be 1-3/8 to accomodate the newer implement?

My 9N has a 1 1/8" PTO shaft. I'm running a brand new snowblower which has a 1 3/8" PTO shaft. I bought an overrunning clutch which adapts 1 1/8" to 1 3/8". I got my overrunning clutch where I bought my snowblower but you can also get them at TSC and other places.

Measure the PTO shaft for sure but the standard for that tractor was 1 1/8" You can easily replace the PTO with one with 1 3/8 and then it will fit all the new PTO equipment without an adapter.

Ok guys, I got the clutch figured out...now for your opinions of the best seat cover. When I was in the market for a ford 8n I looked at one that had a cheap plastic red and white seat cover on it, it was faded and cracked. I don't want to waste money on a junky one that won't hold up.. So what's the best one for the money?
