i need to ask yanks about 9n

ivor from UK here and at last I have found a way of getting parts from USA to UK to get my 9n up and running .... there are possibly 2 types of liner fitted to my 9n but I will make sure I get all details correct first so I could do with advice on overhauling engine and a supplier of parts...the tractor came from Canada sometime ago and is fitted with Sherman hi/low and howard reduction box,is this rare??
thanks in advance

OK, let me see if I can translate, Mate!

I think what you are calling a "liner", us Yanks call "sleeves".

You will not know what you have or need until you pull it down. Someone may have even pulled the sleeves out and bored it out for Mercury pistons.

Sherman hi/lo is not that rare......but the Howard is. You've got a nice tractor.

Does it burn gas or distillate? Most exports burned distillate.

Where in the UK? I was in & out of RAF Sculthorpe in Norfolk a lot in the 80's. Of course, lots of family in the UK during WWII.

thanks for reply Bruce
I live in Mid Wales which is opposite side of country to Norfolk..in about a month there will be official opening of Bomber Command Memorial at Lincoln better late than never but it will be too late for many bomber command crews
what are Mercury pistons?
from now on I will say sleeves!
it is gasoline only but could I convert it to run on kerosene?
I intend to keep it 6volt
it has reasonable appearance but has been brush painted and some dents but as long as I can get it running good I am not going to repaint it
there are a lot of 9n in UK but I am thinking my tractor could be unique here
I am now going to look at 75 tips

To run it off of kerosene, you'd need dual fuel tank, temp gauge and a manifold and vaporizer. Probably easier to find those parts in the UK than here. John Smith's website has plenty of info about the dual fuel N's:

Sorry, Mercury is a US car make. The old pistons would fit the bore of the N w/o sleeves.

Before you start to work on it, get a set of manuals (tip # 39).

Had an uncle that did 25 missions as a radio operator in a B-24. Flew out of an airfield near Norwich.

i have contacted 2 guys regarding converting my tractor to kerosene and one said I stand more chance of hitting the jackpot on the national lottery than I do of finding a vaporiser in good condition for my tractor and the other guy said unless the tractor is working hard I should stick to gasoline, regarding the fuel tank it is my intension to make a new tank as the existing tank is rusty inside and out but I cannot decide to use stainless or aluminium also the capacity will be half or even less as full size tank will not be necessary but I will use all mounting points under hood... if I use stainless a good source of material will be the local recycling yard where old kitchen sinks are disposed of, unless someone can think of a better option

Did Henry market Ford branded tractors in Europe, or did Ferguson have an exclusive? I understand the Ferguson TO tractors were shipped outside England (Tractor Offshore) vs TE (Tractor England or Tractor Europe). Anyone know?

Derwin I have hauled over 3000 n fords to the scrap yard and can not remember 1 with that combination of tranny's, granted my memory is not as good as it was even 3 years ago. Dr seems to think my back will be healed up enough to get started hauling them again later this spring. I have 15 or 16 of them to pick up now.
good luck with your machine.
