Hi Everyone:
I am pondering storing my tractor for three years. Would it be better to store it with a full fuel tank with a good additive such as Sea Foam or is it better to drain the tank. I am assuming in either case, it is advisable to drain the carb.

I would vote on draining the tank and carb, especially if you are going to have heated storage. I might take the tank off and store in heated place .
 
I would also fog the motor run a little ATF in the carb until it smokes real good and then shut it off👍
 
You're likely to going to get opposing opinions here, but I've had better luck with dry. The only problem I've had with dry is that the float needle might not seat instantly, so crack the carb drain and put in a little gas to fill the float bowl and stop until you know it's seating. I don't know of a stabilizer that works for 3 years. Gas is nasty stuff when left in a steel environment for that long. Make sure all gas is out of the system or you will have a residue of nasty caramelized goo to deal with.
 
I would thoroughly drain tank, carburetor, sediment bulb, and fuel lines. Then seal the fuel filler opening to prevent breathing so as to minimize condensation.

I would still expect corrosion on any unplated surfaces.

You are not likely to get much of a difference of opinion on this, the way we all love the new gasoline, LOL. I would drain anything that I don't expect to use in 6 months.

Let me add that we really SHOULD drain anything that is not used in a year. Most of us dump our lawn mowers, saws, snowblowers etc. then run the gas out of the carburetor at the end of the season. Generators need to have their gasoline refreshed annually.

I do just the opposite with engines that set unused for a time. I make sure the fuel tank is full, then park it somewhere out of the way. When I start using it again I put a can of Seafoam in the tank and start it up. Never really had any of the troubles you guys describe.
 
I would definitely drain all the gas out of the tank and the carb. I have a few tractors that will be sitting indefinitely and I pulled the spark plugs and filled all the cylinders with ATF to help keep them from locking up. One is already locked up but I went ahead and filled the cylinders on it too in hopes it would start working its way down and help free it up. $13 preventative action may save some more money down the road...just make sure you get the ATF out before you try to crank it over!!! Otherwise your cheap solution will be a very expensive solution!
