axle nut socket standard or deepwell

I got everything off the tractor so not sure how far the axle nut tightens onto the axle. I'm looking to buy a 2 inch socket to make tightening these things easier. I see the deepwells priced considerably higher. Is a standard size socket deep enough to get the axle nuts tight or do I need a deep well?

If you need a deep well, you need a new hub!

Standard is fine.

Get a 4' pipe to use as a cheater bar. Takes 450 lbs of torque.

Don't forget the washers and safety clips.

Re-torque after a few laps around the yard, then once a year, remove the clips & re-torque.

i picked up a 2" on eBay, got a few snap on tools at half the cost than on the big white trucks.

I needed a 2" socket many years ago. I bought a whole 3/4" socket set from harbor freight for less than one 2" socket at my local farm and home! Some here don't like harbor freight stuff, but that set has served me well.

Same here and it gets used a lot.

bought a set in 1983 after I got my 8N a friend laughed at me for buying China junk. I've used them with my impact and for driving seals never broke any of them.

I bought a set of China junk 30 some years ago and have used them like a rented mule. Still working great . Twisted one extention bar. I bought a complete 3/4 set of craftsman at a farm auction last summer for 40 bucks just cause it was a good buy..

I use a $20 3/4 drive china set with up to 2" sockets. I bought it over 20 years ago at a new Sam's Club in Oklahoma City while traveling for GM. I still have it and it still works just fine. I can't say the airline ticket agent is doing so well after checking my hard side suitcase back to Detroit that also contained a 4 pound short handle sledge hammer. (which I still have)
